What Am I Worth?

Looking for a new job and have just handed out some resumes to some local transport companies. Just wondering what the average going rate is for the following positions and if anyone knows of a website that keep track of current average pay rates for different jobs in Australia. I don't want to be in the position where they ask me how much i think i want to be paid and either ask too high or too low.

These are the positions I'm looking at at the moment:
-HR Truck Driver (Local pick ups/deliveries)
-HC Truck Driver (container delivery)
-Forklift Operator
-Storeman

  • I gather you have a HR & HC licence!!

HR yes, gonna get my HC soon.

  • About 50-60k?

  • I was going to say $45 - $50k plus overtime, but I see you're in Perth so I don't know. Are there many people coming off mining contracts looking?

  • Did you decide against the mining job?

    • Definitely need a HC in the mines pulling quads.

That's still a maybe, waiting to see if i get a bite :) and yeah thinking i should make getting my hc a priority

My tip, for what it is worth, is go get a pistol licence and look into security work like payroll delivery, armoured cars etc. Needs a HR licence and clean record to support the gun, but it pays well, is easy and has a lot of flexibility - you can pick up bits of work not just full time.
My Dad did it for years and claimed it was one of his better jobs.
Might be a step ahead of other drivers without the security qualifications too. Never hurts to have an extra cert or two.

thats actually a really good idea, these are the kinda ideas i like, out of the box, something i wouldntve thought of. Cheers!

    I know many truckies on 100K +

    • What kinda truckies, long haul interstate? or up north on the tricky low accessibility dirt roads? oversize load haulers?.. or just standard local truckies?

      • yeah, most of the above. mining related, fuel delivery, b double + oversize stuff. Basic local stuff is probably where others got the 50-60K from. Go for the big stuff! haha

        • Go for Charity - may get paid poorly now, paid handsomely when you are up there.

          Can check pay on this

          @eatwell365:
That's not gonna help my future family.
But cheers for the link, actually has some very cool stats and info :)

        • @eatwell365:

Oh wow, I just realised I misread what you said eatwell. I thought you were suggesting i go for a charitable job like volunteering etc, and that i would be paid poorly now but paid handsomely when I'm "up there" (as in heaven).

Now i just realised that I'm a complete idiot and that you were talking about the post above yours!

Sorry, and thanks for what I now see is useful advice!

  • Just an update on this, seen a few offers posted on seek lately for Toll forklift operators and MR/HR drivers offering around $32 an hour. That works out to around $70k a year right? Might be useful information for anyone else in the same boat.

    • do anything that requires a licence is good.

      • There's a toll liquids place near my house… I'm thinking thats gonna be a good gig if i can get it. Petrol Tankers etc. :)
