Is hub even a good quality brand? it sounds like a cheap chinese company

    • +1

HUB - "Exclusively at Woolworths", made in China or Taiwan & packed for Woolies Australia.
With "Money Back Guarantee" if you're not happy with purchase.

I'd say Woolworths owns the trademark 'hub', so hub is Australian. An Australian trademark for cheap low quality electronic goods would be my guess.

There are no such things as 'cheap Chinese' companies?

You don't seem to understand what racism is. That isn't racist. But it's not accurate either.

I've won a case (settled out of court rather than won in court) against a company on the grounds of racial discrimination in Queensland.

      • I'm not trying to be racist I was just asking to be sure of the quality of the product. I don't want products dying after few months usage. From my past experience products made in china tend to not live long they only last like a couple of months. I'm guessing due to cheapness the build quality is probably poor.

          like iphones

        • @bangForBuck: designed in California XD

        • @bangForBuck: Tired old meme is tired.

        • From my past experience products made in china tend to not live long they only last like a couple of months.

I think this is an unfair generalisation. I think you'll find that most of the products you use & interact with everyday are either made in China or consist of parts partially or wholly made in China.

I believe the "quality" of a product or the ability to "last long" has more to do with the design, materials, workmanship & QA/testing rather than the country of manufacture.

For example, power tools made by Milwaukee, AEG & Ryobi are all designed & made by Techtronic_Industries to different specifications & price points (in the same factory in China). And tested to ensure that (by people , I may add). Each of them are at different price points & have different "quality" but all are made in China & the better ones last years and years, not a couple of months.

Also, it often makes economic sense to manufacture a product close to where the component parts are produced, which is often China.

Often, you can say, if companies are willing to spend more to manufacture a product (by using labour in a country where wages are higher) they are often spending more on the design & materials, so the product will be of higher quality than one designed & manufactured in the cheapest possible way…

But, I think, people are people, and people in any country have the ability to make great things or bad quality things…

      • Such an ignorant white person thing to say.

        FYI, that's racist

  • How much are these items going on eBay?

    • +3

Usually less, but here you're paying for the convenience of being able to pick them up instore instead of waiting 30 days from China..

Lightning "dock" for $3 looks good, is it just a crade with a USB charging cable?

    • +1

We have a heap of HUB stuff in this house as we've been grabbing items when they go cheap and everything has lasted ages and works well.
Between my wife, myself and 6 kids, we have multiple headphones, card readers, Android dock, usb sticks, mouse, keyboard, phone cases and OTG cables. No issues with any of them.
Grabbed some in store today as stocking stuffers.

Pretty good experience with the brand and have never paid anything near regular prices on them and recommend them all.

Out of everything, the dock does feel like a cheap plastic item, but hell, it just sits there and charges the wife's phone in the kitchen, so not bad for a couple of bucks really.

  • I found the micro USB dock for $2.50 on their website but can't find the lightning one for $3 :(

  • Purchased a fan, silicone keyboard and 2.4ghz fan in store last night… Lets say the discounted price is closer to their worth.

The fan is very noisy, so much so I can be sure that if on a call and it was running the person on the other end well hear it. The keyboard has a bubble/bulge in the centre when unrolled flat like the Microsoft ergo keyboard….. But its a defect in the HUB and the mouse doesn't work on a dark granite benchtop where other mice do. I would take them back if the time and effort was with it plus the kids 10 & 6 like the novelty of the items so they stay.

    • Some report the fan is noisy, I & others find it very quiet. Seems like quality is patchy. Am very happy with the fan.

Suggest swap the fan. (If you've got a USB power pack or car USB - try the next fan before going too far from the store.) I know it's a hassle & hardly worth the effort.

      • Yep, the fan is just noisy without being faulty IMO so I returned it.

  • Looks like Woolies have taken all but the USB drives off the Online site. I'd added a few items to the cart and before I could check out they disappeared.

It depends on stock at your selected store. Plenty to choose from online for me.

Try eBay, that's where the USB drives are now.

  • no 16gb USB at HP but they do have card readers and headphones. Headphones pretty decent quality for $1

  • got a 4 pack screen protector for my S4 for a $1, there's still a handfull in QV Melb CBD

  • Just got my stuff. I am surprised by the Quality. It is good stuff. I got Wireless Keyboard and Mouse, Fan and some other stuff. Everything has good build quality

  • Lots of lightning docks at Watervale Woolworths. It's near the batteries. $3 works well but not too happy about having to take my phone out of the case to use it.

  • 16gb $2…

Was at Booval Woolworths today, they had a brand-new box of 16gb USB 3.0 that I swear wasn't there when I checked last week. Price marked at $18 but still scanned at $2. So if your preferred store was sold out when you went, couldn't hurt to check again.

    • May have been sitting out the back, rather than restock from distribution centre.

I talked with staff stocking shelves with 'hub' products when they arrived months back. There seemed to be a lot of initial stock sent out. Never sold well. Seemed an odd line for Woolies.

Have checked a few Brisbane stores with no luck.

  • The 16Gb is not lightning fast but for $2..

    • Never heard of that, have you tried CrystalDiskMark? I find it's better for head-to-head comparisons

  • Yeah the hubs are pretty low quality. (android ones). I recommend using a cheap android device to get the port into shape first. Its a really hard getting it in the first few times.

I might refund most of them. I bought 6 hubs in all.3 lighting + 3 android.

The cable is worth about $2.00 at most. Its pretty shitty quality anyway.

  • You can remove a white plastic arch from the port. But it still wont charge my phone..

It does charge my xiamio 5000 mah charger.. ^^

  • Did anybody buy the USB 3 hub? Did it come with an AC adapter? If so how many amps?

  • Merged from $1 iPhone, iPad and Samsung Phone Covers, Chargers + More @ Woolworths Windsor NSW

Was in W/W Windsor and saw what I thought was a great deal on iPhone/iPad covers as well as Samsung phone covers most being $1!!!!
The really good padded iPad covers were $5.00.
Not heaps left so check your local store.
