75% off Philips 1000 Series BDP1300 Blu-Ray DVD Player @ Coles $29

190

Previous links on this site showing that $49 was the cheapest you could buy this. For $29 I defiantly thought it was worth investing in and bought one from Coles Burwood and still a few left.

Mod: Reports that it is no longer available at Coles Burwood, however may be available at other stores (limited stock - check with your local).

    Defiantly huh.

In defiance of the trend towards hard drives and Netflix, OP spurns our low-bitrate, compression-artifact ways and buys a blu-ray player!

  • Great link to deal OP

Can this play stuff off usb?

    • +2
      • supports usb. says so in the manual.

        • No, the manual says "supports firmware upgrade via USB"
It's not made clear if it plays any/many formats from USB, the only mention is on page 4 and it's a bit vague.

        • @bazzaa:

Look at the FAQ section on the page you've linked above.

      • Still unclear, doesn't say much and the front port says firmware upgrade only.

But like firefly2k3 points out, people are enquiring about usb files in the faq.

Just went to Burwood. All gone. Went to Forest Hill and got last one for $20.

  • do you think this will be good as a cd player to hookup to my old school Nakamichi stereo amp? (for listening to music)??

    • +1

I've always found dvd / blueray player have a very slow response time (usually due to scanning the disc), which can be annoying for playing music. Personally i'd recommend getting a cd specific player. Hit up gumtree or garage sales and get a $300 for under $50 from someone who thinks this stuff is obsolete.

      • haha i was thinking to get one of those 300 CD carousal players from the old days…

        • those are harder to find now and pricey.

        • i've seen a few advertised around the place in recent times, not overly expensive…. I was thinking of getting one also, but the I have since read A LOT of feedback on them that overtime the carousel function ceases to work and begins jamming and damaging cds.

I'll stick with the 2nd hand 5cd carousel i picked up recently.

Honestly… check out local garage sales. People let good quality 80s hifi gear go for nothing. I picked up a multi thousand dollar high quality system (amp, turn table, front speakers, surround speakers, and more) for $40. Later picked up some wharfedale bookshelf speakers for $10 for my brother.

This weekend I saw another system with wharfedale front speakers, good quality amp, a 5cd carousel, etc priced at $200…. and no doubt they would have gone much lower if it was sitting there unitl the afternoon. (thought about making a $100 offer for it, but then thought the hassle with my wife if i brought it home would make the deal non viable.)

        • @glam77: Sounds great, I will try check out some garage sales :). Thanks for the tip mate

    • What model Nakamichi? ☺

Always thought they were the king of analog. At their best, there was nothing better, IMO.

Yes, like others said get a second hand unit, as they go for peanuts. Perhaps a matching Naka player? Also, a single disc unit, in general, gives better quality than carousels.

This product cannot play any audio/video/photo file stored on a USB device. USB
connection works only for software updates and BonusView contents."
