  • Just booked for December in New Zealand. Booking directly still came out much cheaper. Word of advice - check the rental site direct as well.

    • Vroomvroomvroom can be a good one to check too :)

    • Just checked a rental site directly (GoRentals) and turned out to be quite cheaper than RentalCars… Same category, same car, insurance, etc. AU$528 GoRentals vs AU$664 RentalCars for 14 days.

  • Prices?

  • Problem with rentalcars or easycar is they want a deposit or full payment to book.

I just booked with priceline and ended up with a better deal for the exact same car through the same hire company, and I didn't have to pay any deposit.

  • +1

Wow! Asked of cars in Tuggerah NSW, and the website said "nothing in Tumbi Umbi". Impressive.

  • I use Rentalcars.com (aka CarHire3000.com) all the time, they're 100% reliable (15 years experience). I have two outstanding overseas bookings imminent, using the 15% discount code to requote both did work but because I had booked waaaaay in advance when rentals were cheaper (this is not unusual), the coupon price was only marginally cheaper on one and marginally dearer on the other. If you're comparing Rentalcars.com prices to others, bear in mind that they INCLUDE the CDW in the quoted price. With many others this is an add on to the quoted price….:-( .. !!

    • nevermind.. sorted by reading the full terms.

      • Couple of things. Firstly, you can add the zero excess with CH3000 at cost. However, most travel insurance covers CDW excess (check your policy) and the policy excess on all travel policy claims is usually about $100 which will be your total risk. For example, I travel with Citi credit card complimentary cover and CDW excess is specifically mentioned as covered in the PDS. https://www.citibank.com.au/aus/static/complimentary_insuran…

        • you really gotta go thru the pds. Say you rent a people mover (van), most credit card vehicle insurance won't cover that. Most are limited to sedan, hatch, stationwagon & 4wd.

Also excess covered is up to $2250 from the credit card companies. So if you don't take up the Excess Reduction options from the rental car companies you are still up for approx $1000+ excess if you are relying on inclusive CDW.

        • In the case of the Citi policy this just isn't true. You are covered if you have comprehensive insurance in your rental agreement and there is nothing said in the policy terms about taking the extra cost excess reduction, the travel policy covers that excess. Read on (quoting from the PDS):

          1. Rental vehicle insurance excess
We cover you for reimbursement of any
excess or deductible you become legally
liable to pay whilst on your journey in respect
of a claim made under the rental vehicle
            comprehensive insurance policy during the
period of the rental, if you have:
            (a) rental vehicle insurance as part of the
            rental agreement; and
            (b) complied with all the terms and
requirements of the rental agency under
the rental agreement and of the rental
            vehicle insurer; and
            (c) not violated any terms of the rental
            agreement of the rental vehicle.
        • @cornucopia:

Read the details properly. I'll link it to you once I get home.

I read the excess limit claim towards the end of the latest pds PDF doc from Citibank.

        • @cornucopia:
Refer to page 32 of the downloadable pds that you linked to….

Even my combank diamond cc has the same limitations.

  • I got a great deal off AirportRentals.com (with car from Firefly - belongs to Hertz). Saved about $300 compared to same vehicle direct from Hertz.

  • Still very apprehensive about rentalcars.com seems like a high number of negative reviews. Any issues with Insurance claims? I don't want to be stuck with a $3000+ excess from Avis if rentalcars.com won't come to the party to pay it back, should there be an accident. Being a broker overseas it will be hard to chase up?

  • should this be marked expired? trying to book now.. and the coupon is Not Valid

    • Not expired. If you use this URL taken from the coupon

      http://www.rentalcars.com/?affiliateCode=groupon_rc&enabler=…

and then use discount code groupon15 on the final page of the booking app then a 15% discount is still applied. This will work for all as there is no unique discount code or coupon id as with normal Groupon deals.

      Try it, I just did, it still works .. :-) .. !!

  • Found out groupon coupon did not work yesterday (sunday) due to nobody able to process it…

Too much gamble. Went direct to Avis. Good luck.
