How to Fix Toilet Water Leak and Damp Soil

I have just inspected the subfloor area and noticed a considerable deposit of water around toilet soil pipe. I have also identified that about 50 square meter of soil surrounding toilet soil pipe is very damp.

For a reference, the toilet suite and shower/vanity are in different room and I did not find any water under shower/vanity subfloor area. I have also inspect toilet suite but I did not find any water leakage sign.

Where is this water and dampness coming from? How to get rid of dampness from soil?

Thanks

  • 50 square metres ?

Have a look under the floorboards for any signs of damp where the water may be coming through.

  • You mean floorboards outside toilet?

    • Under the floor looking up ie. Rafters and bearers.

I will have a look tomorrow and take picture if possible.

        • Get under there & then get someone to flush the dunny a few times; if the leak is as bad as you describe you'll soon see where it's coming from.

Is it stinky water or clean?

        • @StewBalls: I could not look water colour closely but I did see a considerable deposit of water.

I spent around 15-20 minutes in subfloor area but did not smell anything stinky.

  • So just water, no smell?

Go check your water meter and see if there is any flow.

  • sounds like a main has sprout a leak, you're gonna have to dig it up

  • Call a Plumber before mould sets in.

  • I checked meter reading before leaving and just returned after 4.5 hours. There is no change in meter reading so I am confused now.

  • To get rid of the dampness you will probably need sub-floor ventilation.
There are plenty of solar-powered sub-floor ventilation fans that are relatively cheap and free to run.
