  • Nope. I assume you are signed in?

    • yep signed in.

      • Check to see if you have a rogue extension.

          my current line of thinking

          Just prior to this popping up, i ordered a pizza using the tampermonkey script

          Ive deleted the plugin (mostly as it doesn't really find anything special that isnt posted here anyway) and running the programs below

  • run MalwareBytes & SuperAntiSpyware and see what you find.

    • malwarebytes didnt find anything

      SAS is running now, so far nothing beyond tracking cookies

  • Can you get a screenshot when you encounter one the next time? Pop-up or expandable ads — definitely not us.

      Good to know its not OzB, at the same time, that means its me lol

      Rather cross at myself, i havent had anything like this in quite some time, 8-10 years?

        Yes that would be some malware on your PC. Hopefully you can get to the bottom of it & clean it up.

        • A quick Google search for "ad by extension" currency converter returned 11 results, 9 were OzBargain where Googlebot indexed "Ad by Extension" in the description.

          Seems odd that Googlebot is seeing it - however those specific search results are probably influenced by my browsing and searching habits. And looking at the source, it's not being injected at my end.

        • @Thrift: because on forum pages we list recent forum topics on the sidebar, which this thread got picked up by Googlebot…

        • @scotty: That makes sense - pretty fast indexing by Googlebot!

          (Google's cached versions don't have this post in the sidebar, so it's just the indexed description.)

  • unfortunately ive followed everything that has been suggested, nothing at all has worked

    • seems Microsoft edge isn't effected

  • So far so good after disabling my currency converter extension

    Weird considering ive been using it for years without issues

    Check yo' extensions people.

    Thanks for the help peeps

    • If the extension is found to be malicious make sure you report it. (Click Report Abuse on the Chrome store page).

    • Please post the name of it here to help others if they find this thread.

      Was it this?

      If it was please report it using https://chrome.google.com/webstore/report/anbfhidldjknonaihb…

      <NOTE>
      The 4.0 build, unfortunately, introduced "experimental ads" causing a mess. Both >the ads and the new permissions have been removed immediately (>4.01 version).
      Please accept my apologies for this situation.
      </NOTE>

      I wouldn't trust the developer ever again after injecting ads into random pages.

      • Yep, that was exactly it. Not re-installing it, don't trust them now

  • I had this exact problem too and I thought it was only on OzB but then pinchme had it too. Thanks for posting the fix
