Recording TV

I currently have a Windows 7 HTPC with WMC but it is several years old and may need replacing soon. I mainly use it for recording TV (although the tuner is playing up), storing about a dozen kids movies and sometimes for EPL On Demand streaming.

What is the best option nowadays for recording FTA TV with regards to reliability, ease of use and value?

  • I'm assuming it's not a smart tv?

A set top box like this would work, https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/players-reco…

    • Thanks - no smart TV.

There's no doubt the HTPC is the most versatile though.

  • I have a HTPC running nextPVR backend and kodi front end, with a couple Sony PlayTVs. Great because any computer or android tablet on the network can them watch tv.

The playtvs have dual tuners so with 2 playtvs you can pretty much watch every station and record every station at once.

  • I've setup my parents' HTPC with TV Scheduler Pro backend and Kodi front end (for playing only, not scheduling), Windows 10, PCI dual tuner on an ancient Core2Duo.
