So my friends and i decided to go to queensland for the summer holidays (after our uni exams) and i was just wondering if you guys could help me find cheap motels to stay in, cheap transport etc.
Anything would heap guys! First time travelling alone without the birth givers and ANY advice will be much appreciated!

also how about transportation? would it be easier to hire a car or take public transport/coach services (to the themeparks)

Coupla bucks on the bus/tram/train from Airport -> Surfers -> Theme parks.
Technically speaking airbnb would potentially be "cheapest" (i.e. <$25 p.p.) if you didn't mind sharing a double bed with a mate and staying in Surfers' Paradise wasn't essential. I haven't used airbnb yet since when I backpack overseas I do it alone and the minimum price is $14 AUD so the savings aren't very impressive in cheaper countries. In Surfers Paradise you can pay under 30 a night in a hostel if it's a 12- or 20-bed dorm.
It's very cheap if you take public transport to the distant theme parks (the zone price is given for jounreys on the translink website and when on the road you can use your phone's Google Maps), especially for students. I don't know if you can get away with an interstate student card.
