One of the balcony glass at my apartment was broken yesterday and i need to get it replaced.
Does any one know how much does it cost to put new glass. Size of glass is around 40" * 54". Or can someone recommend glazier in Melbourne S/E who does not charge hefty amount.

Nope it is not. Its my fault so i need to get it fixed.
If it's balcony glass it would most likely be toughened glass. Get a glazier in, you can't cut safety glass (it is precut then tempered) and they should also be able to make sure what is supplied meets relevant Standards.
Seriously get onto the inter webs and call a couple of places and see if they can give you a rough quote. I know this is ozbargain but you broke it you need to sort it out…
Are you renting or do you own?
If you are renting you'll need to do whatever the landlord wants. As others have said it'll have to be a certain type.
Also out of interest how the f did that happen?
Check with your strata manager as it may be included as common property and therefore an insurance claim.
