Uniden DECT 8155+2 Home Cordless Phones - $135.70 @ Dick Smith

30

I am in the market for a new wireless home phone with 3 handsets.

This looks like a pretty sweet deal seeing the same pack is $179 at Bing Lee, $193 at JB Hifi and $199 at Officeworks…

Best price on EBAY is just over $175…..

why do all these cordless phones look so utilitarian and gadgetlike. Isnt there one that is minimalistic and luxurious?

Do people still buy home phones? Genuinely curious.

Yep i do. I hate mobiles.

    • I have this set or a very similar one.
got it a year ago its pretty alright.

      • Are you able to transfer calls from one handset to another?

    • Yes, for conference calls from home.
      - Landline won't drop due to bad reception. We don't all live in good mobile reception areas.
      - I can play games on my mobile phone during the call without having to multitask on the phone itself. eg unmute when I need to speak.
      - Can call 1800 for free. Can call 1300 for cheaper. Not sure if they changed the cost structure for mobile calls yet for these numbers. I already have the landline phone for the first 2 reasons, so this is not a reason to get a landline phone.

I agree….we have one only for the internet, but I never answer it on the odd time it rings - it's usually telemarketers trying to sell LED lights. I have an unlimited calls on my mobile so I just use that for all my calls, and everybody rings me on my mobile.

Use viber/skype for all overseas calls too.

Yep, on landline I can talk for an hour or two without racking up huge charges, and without having to worry about my phone's battery going flat. While I could to that with an unlimited plan on mobile, that would cost a lot more than my usual monthly spend of about $8 on mobile and $6 on landline.

Also, if you mostly give out your landline number to everyone instead of your mobile number, you don't get interrupted nearly as much during the day when you're working. And people can leave messages for you (answering machine) knowing that they won't interrupt you at work, like "When you get back from work, please buy some more milk and a loaf of bread at the shops, I'll be at a school meeting".

If you've ever had you boss talking with you at your desk, and had several calls come at once, you'll know how bad it can look, and what will happen at your next performance review. Interruptions at work can cost you money!

  • Good price, and has been as low as $119.88 back in July.

    • Haha those specs are total BS

The one thing I really like about it compared to my current Uniden is the "Works During Blackouts – Power Failure Feature"

My current Uniden cordless home phone doesnt work at all during blackouts….

  • Showing as Temporarily Out of Stock :(

  • Curious the "Below Cost" sale price was $135.91.

The new "Clearance" sale price is $135.70!

Wonder what price it will be tomorrow…

  • dont understand why you'd get something like this when something like the below gigaset VIOP handsets will not only do land lines… but also VOIP…

got a set for myself and the inlaws… had voip boxes in the past (a couple different types) and they always echoed, where quiet etc, these things have totally transformed my pennytel service.

$169 for a set of voip/POTS phone… it is just over 30 bux more though…

    https://www.mynetfone.com.au/whirlpool/Hot-Deals

no bluetooth or phone charger, but i think the voip makes up for it… 5 bux a month as opposed to 20-30 that telstra charges, quickly more than makes up for it…

and if you have a health care card, you can keep your telstra line for incoming calls and make outgoing calls via the VOIP phone.
