Opinions on Heat Pump Dryers - Any Recommendations?

I'm thinking about getting a dryer and a quick online search shows that heat pump dryers have excellent energy star ratings (Almost all of them seem to 6 star compared to 1.5 - 2 star rating for the condenser and vented ones).

I just wanted to get opinions from those who own the units on how they feel about them. Good/ Bad experiences? Warranty experiences. Any recommendations on brands and models would be appreciated as well.

Thanks :-)

My mum got a Miele heat pump dryer about 4 years ago.

It was repaired 5 times before it was replaced with an updated version of the same dryer last month. The repairs were covered by an extended warranty, but if they hadn't been the total cost of the repairs would have been over $3000…

She got the replacement unit from the extended warranty insurance people who finally agreed with her that the old one should be replaced under the "no lemon" clause…

The dryer was $2000 new and when she bought it, it was the first heat pump dryer Miele sold here.

According to mum the updated version is better. I'd avoid any 2nd hand units as it seems they have refined the technology a lot in the last couple of years… Also a decent extended warranty might not be a bad option…

  • if you have the money….i prefer the 'sensor' types - but you do need to vent them

Not really worth it, better off hanging your clothes outside, that's free!

    • What about those in wetter/colder climates who cant?

I agree with Wakety-Wack below. I'm in Melbourne, where in the past week or so we've had every weather condition under the sun, except for a sandstorm. So yeah, I'm gonna need a dryer or show up to work in damp/ wet clothes!

I recently bought a Bosch. (Avantixx)

Its great, 6 star energy, has its own self cleaning condenser and 2 lint filters with a decent size 8kg stainless steel drum.

Works great too with its moisture sensors and emptying the water is a breeze!

Yes, the 6 star rating is pretty much whats attracting me to the heat pump versions. How long have you had yours and which store did you purchase it from? Price?

        WTW86200AU
        $2030.00
        From Harvey Norman in Aug
With a years free Omo washing powder.

Not the cheapest but you pay less in the long run as it uses less than half the Kw's of my TV, and the double lint filter + self cleaning condensor = no maintenance
