Is it illegal to park on the right of a yellow line?

I got back to my car today and someone had put a note on my car warning me that I was disrupting the flow of traffic, being inconsiderate to residences and parking illegally even though I parked my car to the right of a yellow line off the road. I was wondering if that's actually illegal, I've attached a screenshot of where I parked: http://i.imgur.com/ohdPsaL.jpg

I park here often and I've seen the council patrolling the area but they've never given me a ticket. Other people always park there too and I've never seen a note on their cars. Thank you in advance for your responses and apologies if I am in the wrong here :)

Don't stop or park at any time in zones marked with a solid yellow line on the road. This is a 'No Stopping' zone.

Simple Google search tells you everything.
Looking at your pic it appears to be very close to an intersection hence the reason for a yellow solid line.

Your very lucky you haven't had a ticket.

    • The yellow line goes all around the road because it's quite narrow. But that you for your response :)

Correct ,which means you cannot park there.

      • i had a look at moola rd where you were parked. you (and the other drivers) haven't received an infringement notice (169) because you're not stopping on the road. you're parked on a nature strip. however, the rangers could technically issue a 197.

edit. one more thing. the timber fence setback on the nature strip are just big enough to suggest that vehicles could park there.

  • I wouldn't say it's disrupting the flow of traffic or inconsiderate to residences (which is why they may have overlooked fining you) since it looks like the yellow line is intended to stop people from parking on the actual road since it's narrow.

But it is illegal to park beyond the yellow line on the verge. Not for your case but on other roads parking on a verge behind a yellow line may be blocking line of site which may have been the reason for placing a yellow line.

    • Yeah the first two parts are from the note an anonymous stranger put on my car - it did annoy me a little since I wasn't being inconsiderate or disrupting traffic and honestly it doesn't affect them at all. I know they were probably just trying to help but the note came across as rude, telling me to "be warned" and "be advised". :/

Yes it is illegal to have your car parked on the right side of a yellow line. I am shocked how someone who has a licence does not understand this. What do you think the yellow line is there for?

I'm confused because based on the picture it seems the OP actually parked on the left side of the yellow line.

This is how I'm looking at it too. Looks like a two lane two way road going off the white line at top of the image (unless they are turn lanes up top). Judging by that picture OP should be travelling down the road and parking left of the line?

      • It's a two way road, and that is a turning lane/split up the top near where I parked, however it is a very very narrow road that can only fit one car at a time.

    • I do know that I am not allowed to park on a yellow line, however since I was completely off the road I thought it could be some sort of exception. However I do appreciate your response :)

the yellow line is on the paved road. it relates to vehicles on the paved road.

you have parked on the nature strip, which is not governed by the yellow line.

you are not allowed to park on a nature strip.

    • I appreciate the response :) Thank you

Thank you for all the responses, I wont be parking there again! :) I did a bit more searching on Google and found that yellow-line or no-yellow-line parking on a nature strip is illegal: http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/sites/default/files/residenti… (see page 2)

    My bad!!!

that's why it's called a nature strip, not a parking strip

    • Roads aren't called parking roads but you can still park on them.

      • unless there's a yellow line ;)
