I've been buying a lot of books recently and between Book Depository (which always has free shipping) and Booktopia, Book Depository seems to have the lowest price on the books that I've wanted in the majority of cases. Shipping times seem to be the roughly equal with BT making me wait for them to stock the book after I had ordered it, BT's packaging of their books has been more protective than BD's. BD also only has 5% cashback compared to BT's 6% so there's another factor to consider.

    For example:
    BD: http://www.bookdepository.com/Halo-Glasslands-Karen-Traviss/…
    BT: http://www.booktopia.com.au/halo-karen-traviss/prod978076536…

    BD: http://www.bookdepository.com/Halo-Joseph-Staten/97807653646…
    BT: http://www.booktopia.com.au/halo-joseph-staten/prod978076536…

    BD: Better priced
BT: Much better packaging (prevents damage to the book covers)

Also, for a cheap $2.95 hardcover Star Wars book: http://www.booktopia.com.au/star-wars-sean-williams/prod9781…

Ah a fellow halo fan! Those books really gave more content to the story for me.

    • BD —> could be waiting up to 2 weeks. Sometimes after 1 week.
BT —> if its in stock and locally sourced (many of their books) could be a few days at the most (2-3 days at the most in my experience unless they are awaiting stock at warehouse)

BD —-> usually lowest priced 90% of the time, however the wait…….
BT —-> reasonably priced. almost always cheaper than local Dymocks

      BD ——> wrap around cardboard
BT —-> looks like two big flaps of cardboard glued around the book(s)

ive used both a number of times. BT has most of stuff i look for in stock and usually delivery reasonably quickly. BD is marginally cheaper (in some cases much cheaper). But it really depends on what you value more - long wait + cheaper or shorter wait + slightly more expensive (hell in both cases better than Dymocks unless you MUST have the book right away or close enough to that).

    • Agreed! I was going to buy it within OZ but the price differences are sizable (%)
just bought a few books, still waiting for delivery

  • If you use the coupon code "Smart" which isn't listed by cashrewards.com.au as an accepted coupon, you may not get the 6% off.

Incidentally price pal is offering 6.75%.

So it's a choice between free shipping or 6.75%.

    • In my experience, the transaction still tracks and gets paid. That message on CashRewards is a generic one that applies to every store listed on their website.

    .
Book Depository is cheaper for me

Davinci Resolve book I'm after the price difference is $20.79 for that one book alone (I don't use cashrewards)

  • It pays to shop around even if free shipping and cashback are offered. Stephen King's newly released book, Bazaar of Bad Dreams is $25.95 at Booktopia. But you can purchase it for $16 at Big W. The eBook is $19.99 at Amazon, Google, Kobo, iTunes, etc!

Code doesn't work for me: "Invalid Code". $6.95 shipping to Sydney still applied. Bugga.

i think this is the code applied to receive free shipping BKOASDHASHDKEWLMXZ (instead of having to go via booko)
As it didnt seem to allow me to "add to a cart" it might be easier to just shop on booktopia

FYI - i already had items in my cart before going via booko, and it applied the free shipping code :-)
