Indomie Mi Goreng Instant Fried Noodles 5 PACK for just $1.70 at COLES

9110

This is the LOWEST price I've ever seen for Indomie Mi Goreng. My favourite Mi goreng 5 PACK for only $1.70, that equates to only 0.34 CENTS per pack!!!! Local asian groceries could not even beat the price!!

      • +1

        In that case BARGIN

        • lol damn. I was hoping there was a shop selling them for $8 a box :-(

          • @azndragon168: In sydney, On Average asian groceries store would sell 49 to 55 cents per pack! I was a regular and bought 9.50 a box of 40, on Illawara Road Marrickville NSW, but that was in year 2000 (10 Years ago) dude!!!

            • @TomatoMan: lol Yea most asain shops are ripoffs when it comes to this stuff, its about finding the right one. When I used to eat all the cheap noodles, there is a place in sunnybank that my dad found that sold it for like 8 bux a box for this noodles, aswell as other noodles for very cheep. Cant remember the shop besides it being there. So its still possible to get them cheep :P

I also remember 1 year ago buying some from china town in brisbane 8$ or someething for a box….

    • yeh. i was also going to say check your local asian grocery store.. last time i was there, the one near me sold for 30c single pack, cheaper by the box lot.

  • +1

Good deal, i'm pretty sure its cheaper then the Asian Place near me at Aspley Hypermarket that sells them in 32/40 packs.

This way I don't have to buy so many packets :)

Don't forget to buy your peas/corn/bacon/egg or whatever you normally add to migoreng :)

  • +1

Noodles with flavour! Maggi noodles aren't a patch on these.

  • +4

In Melbourne , Its common to have $8 to $10 for a 40 pack in Asian shops

    • Where abouts in Melbourne?????

      • +1

There are many places on Sydney road and Footscray, but I used to buy from Bharat on Barkly St, West Footscray.

      • There is a shop "Win Chong" on one of the alleys connecting Lonsdale St and Little Bourke St (ie, chinatown) which sells it at $1.50 for 5, and cheaper if you buy a box of 40.

        • WOO HOO!! Wing Cheong!! I love that place. It's right opposite Wing Loong which is an awesome restaurant as well..

      • Go to Springvale. $10 MAX for a box of 40.

      • +1

        VICTORIA

        City: China Town grocery stores
Preston: grocery stores along high street
Box Hill: Central (Old Central and along Carrington Rd Rd,
Glen Waverley: grocery stores along King's Way
Clayton: Hong Kong Supermarket on Clayton Rd shops
Springvale: grocery stores in the Sprigvale market

all above shops have them at this "SPECIAL price" on a daily basis, Coles/Safeway/Woolies has been over-priced for years!

  • +2

Average $11.50/box of 40 in Adelaide asian groceries.

    Mmmmm… diet of uni students… :)

    • and it's halal so appeals to many muslim students.

  • yeah, go to any asian grocery store, they are selling them $40-50c/bag

    • -2

      $40-50c/bag?

      wow, that's expensive!!! :-P

  • some asian stores sell them cheaper in bulk (box). your friendly asian supermarket might even tell you where to buy them cheaper in bulk, ours did.

  • +1

Not a bad price - but does anyone else think the quality of the sauce sachet included with noodles has gotten worse? Before it was nice - but now it doesn't taste as good…

    • Less msg maybe?

    • -1

You can only eat the same thing so many times before it starts to taste a bit average! :P

    • -5

probably due to the "Pork Oil/Fat" being used previously?

as this is Halal food, I heard that few of the
factory manager was thrown into jail…

      • source ?

      • PROBABLY???
'Probably' is not good enough for NEGATIVE mate

    • still not too bad, only if they are old, then the sauce can taste a bit funny

  • -6

This is a real bargain. Even though the Asian groceries might be selling them cheaper in bulk but they are import and not as good quality as ones in Coles or Safeway. If you notice, the ones in Asian groceries do not have English and the packaging is worse.
And I assume this one has less MSG too lol.

    • +1

All indomie are made in indonesia, doesn't make a difference where you buy from. Difference in packaging is common due to different markets.
And there is no difference in taste.
It's probably safeway and coles that "psyched" you into believing they sell "superior products".

      • +2

It's actually slightly different. The one in Coles/Safeway is the product made specially for export. Where the one sold in Indonesian supermarket is the local product (that they import here). However, I don't know (and don't believe) if the "export" product is superior than the local one, but it does taste slightly different (well, as Indonesian that eat that since I was a kid, we can taste the difference, but it's really close - I bet you won't know it).

        • There you go bsmksg, I hope you've learnt something, at least try both products before you comment.

          • @nhanhamnho: Actually i think its the other way around, most people i know especially the ones who have a lot of experience eating these kinds of noodle products always purchase the asian variant since after all the asian variant has to compete more and taste more like a proper meal purchased there rather than watered down or flavours reduced for the western market.

          • @nhanhamnho: you realize the only thing they would change is the packaging ? "If" what your saying is "true" …

  • Woolies QV city store in Melbourne regularly have specials on individual packs down to 25c - 30c each from memory. That is the cheapest I've ever seen them. This is a pretty good deal if you can't get the Asian grocery deal of $8 for 40 packs which is pretty common around Melb.

    • Yup, in fact QV sells it at 34-36 cents, regular price, if i remember correctly. And asian grocers carry then at 30cents or less.

      • +1

As it's Indonesian product, Indonesian supermarket, Laguna (or similar) is the cheapest. Their normal price is 25c each or $7-$8 per box (in memory, never bought the box). There is 1 Laguna in QV Melbourne (that's probably why Woolies there sells it cheap) and another 1 in Hawthorn.

  • Edit: Checked my local Asian grocer, was only 25cents a pack.

  • When does this start & end?

    • Should start tomorrow and end next Wednesday seeing it's a Coles deal.

      • It'd be out of stock within a few days considering how popular these noodles are amongst students.

  • +2

I remember my university time. I had so much of this through university years that now i'm so scared just by thinking about it lol. Good deal.

  • great bargin, in brisbane the asian grocer in the city (across from ticketek) sells boxes of 40 for $10. I think its a Korean grocer.

  • -7

i agree with most others… not really a bargain for those who know where to go to get cheaper.

I'm thinking it should be neg'ed just for this statement "Local asian groceries could not even beat the price!!" as i think we've had many posts saying that you can get cheaper.

and seriously, does anyone just buy a few packets when they're cheap? Might as well just buy up and keep them in the pantry for emergencies. they last ages. So I think buying a box of 40 isn't so difficult to imagine most people doing it.

anyways, i'm following my own advice and negging for faulty assumption. otherwise, it's a good deal for people who don't shop around for the best deal…

    • +3

They don't last ages, especially from the grocers.

This is very cheap for Brisbane, its difficult to find a better price at asian grocers.

I'm definitely going to buy a few packs because they are cheap.

They are unhealthy, and they are really easy to get bored of.

I once purchased two boxes when i was addicted and I didn't end up finishing them all.

      • I agree! I'm one who will never buy a box. Will only eat it once in a while when I feel like it, then don't eat it for weeks after that.

I too think the noodles don't last ages. The noodles actually will taste/smell rancid, if not "unfresh" when kept too long. I hate that smell/taste. And no, I didn't keep them for years before eating them.

        • +2

Im the one who will buy the box. eat the box.

then buy another box. eat that box too.

and probably buy another box after the other boxes are eaten.

          • +6

@Lexsus: You may as well eat the boxes, about as nutritious.

            • +2

@bargainhunter: actually i might just try that . buy the box . throw the mi goreng out . and just eat the box itself .

            • @bargainhunter: lol I like this… so honest HAHA

              • +2

@illumination: im eating the box as we speak

                • +1

                  @Lexsus: Now you're getting your money's worth ;)

                  • +1

@bargainhunter: not only do i eat the box

i eat the plastics within the box. i don't even heat or cook anything

                    just eat it RAW.

                    G-STAR RAW*

                    • +1

@Lexsus: my house mate used to eat it raw with his hands, then one day he had some before his gf came over. she is now forever known as "chili-puss" (I saw her run straight to the bathroom hahaha).

  • I buy a box of 40 from Springvale (VIC) for $10/carton

    • i think it's $9 / box from KFL springvale

    • Pretty fair price for the 40-pack-box. $10 for a box is not a special from most of asian groceries.

      However,it's a bargain:5 for $1.7

  • +1

You know what…..with the rise of the aussie dollars, the local mart must be making a fortune out of this now. If Coles can afford to bring it down to $0.35 a pack, that means the usual $10 per 40 packs should be cheaper now. Unless Indo currency has risen as well.

  • Good deal !! Cheap enough for Stix to have as a nice treat.

  • +2

For all you noodle fan's out there, do yourself a favour and buy the 'Nissin' brand instead. These noodles are oodles above all others. Here's one of the flavour packs to look for… http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E-1UW-S4zb8/RlUPBUPPHnI/AAAAAAAAAC…

    • Yup, nissin serves one of the best noodles. I kinda feel that its the only brank that give you a proper condiment packet (ie, peas, rice cake, etc). However, they are considerable more expensive than indomie.

  • +2

Wow.. only another 3 weeks or so till i resume at uni… Got all my text books and software ready, now I can stock up on Mi Goreng and ill be entirely set ! :)

  • 10-12 bucks box of 40 from the majority of asian supermarkets in SA

  • +1

10 bucks for a box @ asian supermarkets. same price. GG

  • These a good for a quick meal add a bit of onion, capsicum, and sliced chicken breast.

  • -6

No deal!!! They're like $10-12 a box from any Asian grocery…

    • Still deal!

Not everyone need a 40-pack box.

also, price of 5 pack couldn't compare with price of 40-pack box.

  • might wanna go easy on the MSG, Also known as flavour enhancer 621
    http://www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info/factsheets/FactMSG.ht…

  • Also worth noting in the catalogue this week is Nutella, which is half price.

  • Anyone from WA, just went to FAL (Balcatta), only $7.99/30pack. Thanks

  • +2

Not a deal. Asian groceries sell them way cheaper.

Though i wont neg because mee goreng is yummy and deserves to be on the frontpage.

  • Hang on so where's the cheapest to get a box of them in Sydney?
Something like $12.50/30 packs in Flemington
    or
$13.50/40 packs in Burwood I think

  • +6

Cheap yes, but at what price to your health? These instant noodles are high in palm oil. Palm oil is high in saturated fat and low in polyunsaturated fat. Biomedical research indicates that the consumption of palm oil increases the risk of heart disease. The National Heart Foundation of Australia does not recommend using palm oil as it is made up of over 50% saturated fat. So full marks for spotting a bargain but I'd go easy on the consumption. I'd also go easy on the sachets which are high in salt. http://www.worldactiononsalt.com/health/salt_health.htm

    • -3

Not to mention palm oil is the reason why forests are being destroyed in Indonesia. Take it easy with the Mi Goreng. It can give you the runs.

      • Eww. I've never got the run from eating these noodles..

        Maybe you're not well?

        • Just use olive oil or sesame oil (tastes much better anyway) instead of the oil included in the packet.

          • +6

@scrimshaw: then you wasted the Palm oil, and the Palm tree… :-P

      • There is a well known secret to combating what we asians call 'burning ass'… hand stands in the shower.

    • I never use the oil.

      It looks vile

    • pete, if u follow what other people said on the net all the time. you won't be able to eat anything. remember everything in this world has two side and if u see on the negative side all the time, it is your choice and you won't be able anything.
olive oil is it good? what happen if u takes too many olive oil on your cooking, is it still better? off course not. anything too many is not good to your body. even drinking too much water can kill u. remember on the news about one lady that died after join drinking water competition?

  • It's already cheap in Melbourne. They are selling about 25-35c/pack and $8/box(40packs). You can get it from Indonesian groceries.

  • -1

    This stuff is so dirty…

  • anyone can tell me the cheapest place to get some in Brisbane?
maybe recommend an asian grocer that sells it cheap?

    • Most if not all asian stores will sell these cheap m8.

    • Yeh across the road from ticketek in the Korean grocers, i bought a box there for $10 (normal price).

  • It's very cheap here in Campsie NSW.
However, if you know the shop owner or look asian, you can get it for $7.50 sometimes for a box of 40.

I prefer the Nissin noodles, ones from Hong Kong.
There is a premium on the price but they taste better.
The ones that are made in china have a different formula…

    • "or look asian".

      Reverse discrimination anyone?

  • +1

I am having flashbacks to my time as a uni student. Back when I was young and poor. Agreed with all the comments here: IF you are a uni student, buy the boxes of 40/$8 at Asian grocery stores. For everyone else; avoid these like the plague! The noodles are fried, there is an MSG satchet, a congealed oil/fat satchet…etc The only thing good about these noodles is the price :)

    • I've personally seen Family & Friends (not just 1 or 2, even couples) who went on saving sprees and was on Mi Goreng for months (of course adding eggs/ham/viggies from time to time for a boost of flavors)

RESULT: Gaining 3-5kgs in weeks. good mate of mine went from 70ish kilos to 90ish kilos in 4 months….

These are full of Carbs/oil/not healthy in anyway… spend a tad more and look after yourself otherwise gym memberships/new cloths will cost you alot more!

      • there were some news for a student in Asia which is so poor, eating Instant Noodles every-single-day, after two months or so he died due to not enough Nutrition or something…

        those eating Mi-Goreng everyday…beware!!!! :-P

      • This is a good warning. Don't know why this post gets negatived..

    • Haha - that is exactly what Mi Goreng translates to, Fried Noddle.. lol… Mi = Noddles and Goreng = Fried..

  • not much of a deal, Asian grocery shops are doing special on these everyday, at $8-$9 30packs/box, I'm sure Coles can definitely do better!

it is only good for those have no access to Asian grocery shops & maybe poor Brisbane…which is overcharge for years! :-P

  • +1

Terrific deal. I got myself 3 boxes! And yes, I'm a uni student and I'm aware that there are healthier alternatives but so what, I love the taste :D

    Thanks OP!

  • Wow, quite the discussion topic here
I guess we all live on this stuff!!!!

  • this stuff will KILL you if eaten intermitantly….your life surely worth more than a saving of $1.29!!!

  • WOULD ALL those who voted negatively on the basis that this stuff will kill you, go on record as being the nutrition police here. AND vote negative on the beloved COKE, COFFEE, Chips, Dominos etc deals being posted.

Yep and there documented cases of students dying of poor nutrition for drinking only coke, only beer, playing video games instead of studying and so on. This is getting worse than the Mac vs PC wars these are only Noodles - nothing to get hung up or stuck on.

Lets keep personal opinions/bias out of these discussions, and stick to some commonsense.

    • Agreed, however for those who have not entered an Asian Grocery shop please go to one and experience this so called "massive savings deal" on an everyday basis.

    • if you were referring to me, I voted negative:

not much of a deal, Asian grocery shops are doing special on these everyday, at $8-$9 30packs/box, I’m sure Coles can definitely do better!

      $9 / 30 = $0.30 per pack ($0.305 = $1.50)
      $8 / 30 = $0.266 per pack ($0.266
      5 = $1.33)

some said 40packs per box, so:

      $9 / 40 = $0.225 per pack ($0.2255 = $1.125)
      $8 / 40 = $0.20 per pack ($0.20
      5 = $1.00)

      • david, remember this is promotion from coles. check coles price after promotion finish, then you do proper comparison. the price of fresh apple can't be compare with apple that already 1 month old on the table. right?
when they do promotion they cut their profit margin. so the price look like cheaper, they might do this to clear their stock or the vendor really do promotion, similar like ads.
