Best smartphone with removable battery

Hi all,

I think I had enough of smartphones with non-removable batteries, from Nexus 5, Nexus 6, and now OPO. Seriously now I just thought it's just a big scam from phone company to force us to change phone every 2-3 years due to degradation of battery. So many of these smartphone with non-removable battery will freeze sometimes, and there's just nothing you can do about it (even with hold press few buttons etc at times). Just not acceptable when I'm on the phone a lot! At least with removable battery, I could just pop open the back and let it reset or change to spare battery quickly if the phone decided to just freeze. And I personally do find phone with removable battery last longer in term of not worrying about degrading battery quality. Hell, my mum still using my old S3 just fine.

At the moment, my OPO's battery will sometimes drain completely overnight from 90% in 8 hours without usage! ( Caused me late to work due to no alarm one time). Some day it just won't turn on at all. Ok, maybe Cyanogenmod just sucks at OPO, but seriously after having so much troubles even with old Nexus 5 & misus's nexus 6, I decided to give up on smartphone with non-removable battery once and for all, even the spec is really good. I'd rather have a practical phone, than phone with good spec with no guarantee on battery quality/

Ok, enough of my moanings…The main question is, is LG G4 the best one out there with removable battery I could buy at the moment? or is there other better one? Thanks!

  • Galaxy Note 4 has a removable battery as well

downsides are that it's not exactly affordable ($670 from Kogan) and is pretty big @ 5.7 inches.

On the budget end of the spectrum there's a Xiaomi Note 2 Prime. Also rocking dual sim, SD card and a 3060mah battery. Doesn't have the polish of a LG G4 but is a half decent option.

Cheers mate. Note 4 probably a bit too big for my liking. I don't have big hands, so 5.5" probably the largest I would go.

As for Xiaomi, I heard good thing about it, especially their powerbanks, but probably will be hesitant to try their OS.

new lg v10 has removable battery too

Wow..didn't know LG made V10 line..but again, I think it's just too big for average consumers…still don't get it why phone makers these days make phone soooo big! We didn't suddenly evolved to a bigger hand do we?

      • It's a new one that's based on G4 (I'd say that it's better than G4 that LG didn't go easy on for few stuff).
I've seen bad battery performance from a review that tested battery life (same condition, comparison with G4 along with other phones), which wasn't too surprising given V10 has a larger screen than G4.

I think LG G4 is bang for the buck option that has both mSD card support and removable battery.
G4 probably wouldn't feel as large as many phones because of how large the screen actually is (though you probably would be better off checking the phone in real life).

LG is running promotions on V10 in US, 200GB mSD card for people who bought V10. Not sure whether they'd do something similar in Australia.

Other option you have is getting a phone with non-replacable battery and replacing the battery by talking to the manufacturer of the phone. I know that this option is not exactly a decent one in Australia though.

    All batteries are removeable…
Some are just much easier to remove than others.

    • ain't got time to bring to workshop and possibly cost me just the same to buy another new phone

    • Do it yourself.
The hardest bit is getting the case open usually.
      Might require a fancy screwdriver.
Once you're inside, there's usually just some double sided tape "gluing" it in place.
Disconnect the battery from the motherboard, reconnect the new battery and you're set.

Youtube will likely have a video of the entire process.

I usually just need to take the battery out to reset the phone when it froze, not so much to extend phone's life.

        • Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds (no other buttons) should force reset.

Sounds like you have some sort of software issue with your OPO.
Check out the battery stats to see what's causing the wake-lock overnight.

I'd be doing a factory reset or even a full wipe and reinstall.

        • @scubacoles: CBB..don't trust OPO phone anymore lol..sound classy but deep down lot of flaws.

  • I just bought Huawei 7 mate and I trust it is an amazing value for money 6" sccreen, huge battery and works really well

  • I love my G4. Great phone, size is doable.

Also has a Micro SD slot, so thats another bonus. They were selling for under $500 a few months ago so they are also very cheap, another bonus.

How many bonus'you need? i can keep going.

Qualcomm quick charging, Slimport output. best camera etc etc.

The LG G4 is prob the second best phone of the year after the s6 edge, though I prefer the G4
