  • perhaps make an inquiry with these guys?

I believe it costs you nothing for them to get a quote for you.

      • Lol. I do agree it looks dodgy AF.

I like John's reviews so I might be biased though.

I would suggest you call or email several dealers letting them know you want their best price and availability for exactly what you want.

No dealer will give you 2mins of your time if this is how you want to negotiate. Do it in person or don't do it at all if you expect to be taken seriously.

        • It's not how business is done now. No one wants to get into a dutch auction over phone, and it is way too easy to do.

Customer - "Whats your best price"
          Salesman - $XX
          Customer - "Ok thanks"

Customer proceeds to call 5 dealers, quoting your price around town, every salesperson quotes under than amount in a non-commital way

Customer proceeds to go to dealer that offered the least

Salesperson #2 - "Oh sorry I must have been thinking of 'X' car" or "Sorry Manager won't approve it, best I can do is this"

Customer, tired and worn down from the whole experience, agrees to sign there and then, not wanting to go back to salesperson 1 with tail between their legs.

What I'm getting at, is unless you're prepared to give me credit card details over the phone in order to secure it at that price, why would I give you my best price to shop around town? Customers have no form of loyalty (as you've already established by comparing prices against everyone), and salespeople know that, and most won't get pushed like that. They'll tell white lies until you walk in their door, or just not return your call (but most will just say anything to get you to walk in the door, where they can actually do something to earn your business).

Long story short, if you're in a position to negotiate, be in a position to purchase! Don't have to check it with the Mrs, don't have to check with the bank, don't have to do anything besides take up this offer! If you want me to do the car for X price, you be prepared to buy it, sign for it, shake on it at that price or your offer means nothing.

        • No way, i agree with Charlie, i called and then went in to the salesyard and asked them what their best price was. I actually had a blank cheque with me, and he wouldnt give me a price and said thats not the way it works. When to another car dealer and he gave me a price. I started negotiations from there and bought the car on the day.
As any good bargainer does, i went back to the first place and said why wouldnt you give me a price, he responded with its not the way we do business. I said you might want to change that as i just bought a car from Mitsubishi….Their loss.

        • @XCelR8:

Point proven, best price isn't best price ;)

          @Cheap Charlie:

Yeah with remoteness comes lack of proximity to compare prices, and instead go head-to-head with the local. Do well by them and they'll return, and send their family as well. Unfortunately buyers are being taught (thanks internet) not to do things that way these days, and lot less personal, a lot more price beating. They'll go across town in the hope of saving $100, forgetting the amount of time and effort to do the round trip, and subsequent trips to pick up the car! Salespeople that know the customer isn't local will promise the world to get them to travel that distance, when it was all just a white lie!

When I rep-posted a Suzuki deal on here, I still had people asking for a better price. It was also shown to at least 1 other dealer (that's how I got in trouble!) in order to attempt to beat the price I'd offered.

No one seems to be able to haggle a price down, without showing the competitors price. Look at the price-beating that goes on here over Officeworks etc, only it's a bigger scale when it comes to cars. People are taught to shop a dealers 'best price' all over town, and salespeople know that, and have to counteract it to put money in their own pockets!

And in turn, buyers end up hating the purchasing process because of how they've treated the very person that supposed to help them out with their new major purchase!

How… ?? Work out your happy price. Be prepared to do the deal and let them know that you are ready to sign up & pay deposit right there and then.
A tyre kicker will never get the best deal.
If offer rejected, leave your details so they can contact you if they change their mind.
Take note of the best price they offer you in lieu in case you need to up your happy price.

BTW… What is the gap between what they offer and what you want?
Will you have a trade in… that means a whole new ball game.

        Now i'm worried… !!!

  • Negotiating the price of a car is the same as negotiating anything else.

    • Have a realistic figure in mind. For a new model, if it costs 40k, don't think you'll be able to negotiate down to 30k. For older models, it may be possible.
    • Don't let them know you've decided to buy that model, or even that make. Come up with a few similar spec. cars of different make and model and let them think that you don't have to buy from them.
    • Visit several dealers in person and talk to a salesperson. Let them know you're going around price hunting and also have the above few cars in mind. See what price each offer you. Most places will not negotiate with you seriously over e-mail or phone.
    • If they say they're going to talk to their manager about giving you a cheaper price, don't buy that crap. They're really just going in to have a coffee to make you feel like they're going out of their way for you. Don't get nervous or pressured.
    • If they tell you they can only give you a particular price if you sign the contract today, that's also crap. Make sure you don't fall for it.
    • Once they have given you their best quote, make sure they have your contact details and you have theirs. They will definitely call you in a day or two to see how you're going. You want to make them wait for you instead of you calling which makes you sound desperate.
    • Make sure one of the dealers you visit is your local one. When you buy a car from your local dealers, they get subsidised by the car company for selling local, so they can give you a better discount.
    • If they really can't do better on price, ask for extras, e.g., metallic paint, scuff guards, nav. system, free servicing for the first 10 services.

That's the strategy I use, but it depends how brave and bold you are asking for all that stuff. =P

Sorry to rain on your parade, New ANCAP ratings are out for Hyundai Tucson and its not looking good as it scored with only 4 stars. Hyundai are going to do some changes to the existing model with a revision coming out soon I believe to achieve 5 stars. You may want to think about purchasing this car or use this as an ammo to negotiate a price if you're fixed on the car.

Link to ANCAP results here: http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/2015/Hyundai/Tucson/TL-Ac…

Other than that, A mate of mine is true Hyundai loyalist and scored a good bargain with Dandenong Hyundai on his santa fe if that's of any help.
Pitch the dealers against each other to score a deal as that's what he did from what he told me. Cheers.

  • I called a dealer in west sydney and agreed on the price. They told me there was a brand new car not driven just arrived. It's not the colour I wanted but I am not too fussy with colour.
I went today wanted to pay deposit on it and they wanted like 200 dollars more, when I went back the car yard saw someone just drove out that car for test driving. I decided to come home and have second thought of that car.
The odometer was like 40km . Just wondering what's your view with that car ? The car is like 1k cheaper than other dealer quoted me as brand new.

    • Was it licensed? Make sure you ask if it's already licensed.

And, not to say I told you so, but

Salespeople that know the customer isn't local will promise the world to get them to travel that distance, when it was all just a white lie!

    • Tell the lying scum bag to get stuffed.
If it was me, I'd negotiate even lower now because he pulled that crap.

  • Anyone bought this yet?

  • i am seriously looking at this suv. has anyone bought it? any feed back? good? bad?

  • I went to check it today, think it looks good, I am no car expert. CX-5 and CRV all look good to me. It's just the price now.
Has anyone bought it yet? What's the lowest?

  • I have bought it at $42k DA in melbourne Highlander Patrol
