Missed Amex card statement due on weekend

Hi.
Firstly I have always paid my credit cards in full by bpay on or before the due date and paid it on the preceding Friday if the due date fell on a weekend. However, this time, my amex card statement due date was on Sunday (yesterday), and i missed paying it off on Friday. I have already made payment of the closing statement balance this morning.

So my question is, will amex accept the payment as on time since the due date was on a weekend? Has anyone experienced this situation before and would it be better for me to pay off all of the remaining balance right now? I have never missed a payment before if that helps me get off paying any interest. Thanks

  • i've overlooked a payment date before with amex. got charged $30 for missing the payment date. called them up and they reversed it since it was a first time thing.

never missed a payment since then.

  • +2

    Why not to call them?

    • Yes just ring them and ask for the refund. It happens to everyone eventually, easy enough to forget, and if you have good payment history they'll let it slide

  • give them a call
my wife has forgotten a few times and they have been nice and didn't charge

  • It'll be fine.

In my experience I've been given one day's grace. Even if you made payment from a third party bank on a weekend, it wouldn't be received til Monday evening anyway.

  • Any Card payment must be made on or before the due date, regardless even if it falls on a weekend If you receive a fee then its considered you were late !
so the best idea would be to set up your payment on the day you receive your statement so that you will never have to forget it next time .

You can try giving them a call and they might waive the fee if it was the first time, but its up to them if they wish to reverse the fee, you cannot demand it as they are used to getting excuses from repeat customers all the time .

  • As many advise, give Amex a call and they will normally waive the fees.

In terms of due date falling on a bank holiday, it depends on the individual banks. So read the T&Cs. I know at least two of the big four banks will allow the payment on the next business day without incurring fees. I read the T&Cs.

However when I phoned Amex for this question, they confirm all payments must be on or before the due date even it falls on a bank holiday.
