Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 - Yay or Nay?

Just wondering what you guys think of black ops 3?

I was a huge fan of black ops 2 - and loved the league play function of it (i predominantly play multiplayer)

However, i bought call of duty ghosts and advanced warfare and both of these games turned me off the franchise (the multiplayer sucked in my opinion). How does Black Ops 3 stack up?

  • Don't know much about the Multiplayer but there are a lot of issues relating to performance and matchmaking, so the reviews on Steam are skewed towards 'Mixed' as there are a lot of people voicing their complaints.

    Population wise though…

BOPS II has a lot of players despite being an older title
    1,555 playing an hour ago
    7,143 24-hour peak

    Ghosts
    309 playing an hour ago
    1,187 24-hour peak

    Advanced Warfare
    170 playing an hour ago
    574 24-hour peak

    Black Ops III
    11,153 playing now
    47,174 today's peak

Anyway going by the stats alone, the Black Ops sub-franchise looks to be more popular than the others.

  • If you have friends to make it enjoyable, do so. If not don't bother - its a rehash of a rehash and I've personally lost complete interest in the series.

    • even zombies?

  • I got BO3 on the PC. The game is unoptimised right now. The minimum spec will get you maybe 20-30 fps. In order for a constant 60fps, you will need a GTX 900 series card or at least an AMD 290, with MORE than 8gb of system ram. I got 16gb and the game uses 12-13gbs during multiplayer and maxes out my 970's 4gb vram to get about 100fps.

Despite all these, BO3 is probably the best in the series in my opinion (I dont have AW). I find that Treyarch found this perfect balance of implementing Titanfall like movement but not over doing it (note that exo boosting will cause you to be shown on the map so use with caution). In fact, the movement is what makes this game less linear and more unpredictable. They have also done a good job putting objects and walls to the maps so that you can use them for exo movements to your advantage. This game still uses the BO2 10 point system for customisation but the different specialist classes really makes a nice variation to the game.

However, there are some stuff I hate about the game other than the unoptimised state. A couple of the maps are done badly. I love maps that spread out the firefight evenly over the entire area. But in some maps, no matter where you run, you will be led to some central zone where it becomes a major clusterfcuk. Metro is one that comes to mind where the majority of firefight will be at the platforms. This makes the map super boring.

Overall, if you are buying on consoles that will be good. If buying on PC, just browse the Steam forums to read about whose system has what problems and see if yours may potentially have any. You can always buy on Steam and try it first. You can refund if your play time is less than 2 hours. So have fun….
