Dash cam!

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a good dash cam for sale?

  • Banggood has some cheap ones for like $35. Don't know how good they are.

They currently have 6% off with this code:

  • This is $36 in the new Joyce Mayne Catalogue

Probably junk, but cheap end of the market.

  • Don't want cheap end stuff! Something that is decent and affordable.

Able to recongise number plates too. I think that's the main selling point.

  • What about those action cameras SJ 1080p?

I think any 1080p action camera should be able to capture the footage correctly.

There are even ones where they loop over old footage and hold 6 hours of footage but these are useful because when you are in a crash, just unplug it or take the batteries out.

I looked at some footage and it is quite hard to capture number plates unless you go frame by frame and analyse the footage using VLC.

I used this as an example and it shows someone who is travelling at a reasonably fast speed, i.e. I assume both cars near the speed limit at around 4:50.

These are some things you should think about.

Does anyone know if GoPro can capture number plates whilst travelling at a certain speed? Or is capturing the crash usually good enough if you are able to get the person who crashed to stand in front of your car to exchange details ; whilst the footage shows what happened?
