Wine Reccomendations for a Newbie?

Hey Everyone,

I am recently getting into wine (particularly reds) and looking at some of the cellarmasters click frenzy deals.

Is anyone able to recommend a good 'starter' pack?

Is something like this a good deal? http://www.cellarmasters.com.au/mixed-cases/wine/click-frenz…

Thanks!

  • I would recommend one of the Vinomofo mixed packs. I've bought a few of them and they've been great to try random things I wouldn't normally since I'm still new to it. I've received some excellent ones, many good ones and hardly any bad ones.
    Recently I bought this pack:
    https://vinomofo.com/wines/mixed-case/black-market-mixed-pac…
This is mostly reds, and lately there's been a few great black market deals which should make an appearance in here.

Free shipping for clickfrenzy, and if you aren't already a member there's a $25 referral credit which will bring it down to $100 for the case delivered.

    • Tempting! Thanks for the link and the insight.

  • One of my favourite reds is Pepperjack Shiraz. It's normally $25-30 but Dan Murphys currently has it for $15, which is a steal.

  • Hi Jimjams

I work for www.winedirect.com.au which are a South Australian based online wine merchant. We offer personalized recommendations on some of Australia's finest wines. If you wanted to get in touch, email me at [email protected] and I'd be happy to help you out with some recommendations or even offer some advice on things you might be thinking of purchasing from anywhere. I tried to have a look at the link that you provided, but seemed to be broken. The recommendation for Pepperjack is a great entry level wine. Very punter friendly and great food pairing wine. I have found the best way to introduce people to wine, especially red wine is to pick a particular region and varietal, eg Barossa Shiraz and start to try and pick the different flavours that you get from different producers. Feel free to get in touch if you want to chat more though. I'd be happy to help

    Cheers,
    Dan

  • I got given a bottle of Geoff Merrill Reserve 2007 Cab Sauv, is it any good? Can't find too many consistent prices online or reviews, and I don't have a Hallidays… I intend to give someone a very nice bottle of red as thanks & had intended to spend up to $200 (it was a huge favour!), would this suffice or do I need to go shopping?

  • Delightful vintage 2016 (quarter unnamed) Shiraz available from Dan Murphy's for $2.70 per 700ml bottle in a 6 pack. Cheeky little number with hints of vinegar, antifreeze, and ribena. Bowler's Run. Suitable for any occasion except social. The next morning I swear by it.
