Charged by Citylink for Hire Car after Returning It. Help (Toll Road)

Hi Ozb,

Just now I got an email from Citylink (toll road) for a bill exceeding $80 for Tolls.

I logged in to check and found out that the Hire car I had added was still under my account. The car was retured 3 weeks ago and has incurred over $80 worth of Tolls.

I remember quite correctly that I had informed Citylink on the day i added the Car that to make it active till the Sunday the following week. I totally forgot about calling em up after i returned the car as I got caught up with my car repairs.

They are currently closed, but I am starting to get a bit worried. Would they return the Money? Or will I have to cope it up?

Any previous experience would be helpful or any suggestions/actions I could take should they decline to remove the fees.

  • Kinda your fault for not double checking you removed it…

    I guess call city link in the morning and ask what to do. Maybe if you get some sort of proof from the hire car company that you returned the car and therefore you weren't the driver they can pass on the bill to the hire car company who can pass it on to the actual driver.

  • Oh have you resolved this? I can help (I work for a toll road company :)) firstly they can't pass the bill onto the hire car company if it was linked to your account. So that option is out. Basically you can go two ways about this, if you asked them to remove the vehicle in one week and they didn't you can ask them to go back and listen to the call where you asked them to remove the vehicle. Your other option is to say that once you noticed the charge on your account you contacted them immediately. Generally I would recommend the second option as companies are pretty good if it is in the same statement period :)
