Old PC games from 2000 up to 2014 some dont work

Hey guys,
I never got into gaming (i know.. i know..) but i got a second hand gaming pc which is fine to play stuff prob to 2014 at 60fps, maybe 2013.
So i wanted to play a lot of older games 2000 - 2014 but on windows 10 64 bit i get a lot of .net framework 3.5 errors even though i have 5.0 or other games not working like warcraft 3, original battlefront etc.

Im not sure if i need a virtual pc setup or if i need compatibility mode or something else.
any help would be recommended.
cheers

  • what games and what is the cpu setup?

i think i had a similar issue trying to play older games in a SLi setup.

    10gb Ram

  • bah, I remember there was a program that allows u to run the games, was playing ancient art of war on it (some 80's game)

pretty sure I used what they said

  • Windows 10 might be your problem.

I read this article a while ago. This may be why they're not working. Sorry, don't know the fix, as I haven't really read into it.

  • +1

Those .net framework errors can be fixed by installing the version it's asking for. (Despite having the latest, if the program in question requires an older version, it typically has to be present in order for the program to run.

Secondly, for certain games (like Diablo 2,) a glide wrapper is needed for emulation, so a quick google search for nGlide will sort you out there.

If you can name some particular games that you're having trouble with, I can see if I have a solution. I'll be on and off as I borked the Windows 10 Store App earlier and have to do a fresh install.

  • I tried to installer 3.5 but it didnt work, i then downloaded the offline installer 3.5 and that didnt work.
Il check all the games i have at home and see and let u know cheers.

  • Dual boot with Windows 7?

  • Id prefer not to dual boot if i can help it, i can try franks method tonight and see how it goes.
if it dont work spackbace i can try dual.

  • i just installed netframework on windows 10 no dramas, can play all old games

for really old games use Dos Box

  • why wouldnt i be able to install that?

  • If you have .net framework 3.5 errors then you night need to try to install .NET Framework 3.5 x86 or x64? Have you looked online if 3.5 is included/covered by 5.0?
they are all different, and on my computer for example I have 1.1 and 4.5 installed.
Otherwise, is it possible on Windows 10 to change the compatibility mode, same as on Windows 7 ? (Right Click / Properties / Compatibility / Run this program in compatibility mode…) ?
