I will swap 2 lemons for each new Volkswagen

Well, it appears that some Volkswagen owners in Australia are seeking recompense from VW for their cars that they consider worthless.

The ABC story (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-11-19/class-action-lawsuit-f…)contains this:

"Steven Roe bought a Skoda diesel in 2012 because of its low emissions.
He did not know its test results were rigged.
"I believe now that because of what's happened, that vehicle will be virtually worthless," he said.
"It's a total lemon.""

As an OzBargainer, I am distressed for any consumer who does not receive value for money, and even more upset when I think that he may not be the only one who believes that they have been disadvantaged financially.

So, I am offering two lemons (or their retail value) for every Volkswagen affected by this.
I will alter the offer to limes if the VW is green, and mandarins for orange ones.

I'd settle for the time I spent reading this back

  • Remind me again of the Australian owned and made car brand?

    Oops, there is none.

I said car, not toy for young rich males or for males in a midlife crisis.

Good luck going on a road trip with the wife, two or three kids and dog in this. Or supermarket shopping.

And how many of those are sold per annum?

Nice try but you know what I mean. Be real.

        • Nice try but you know what I mean.

Cause we can all read your mind

Good luck going on a road trip with the wife, two or three kids and dog in this. Or supermarket shopping.

          Mini version of hell

        • @Mikinoz:

OH, OK. So you are admitting that most of Australia lives in hellish conditions. So much for the best country in the world then. Ha, ha, ha.

Let me guess, you ar in your mid to late twenties or early thirties, not married, no children.

Or in fifties, divorced, no contact to children and looking after number one only.

I don't think that if you ask an average, ordinary Ozzie to name an Australian car manufacturer they would say Elfin.

Have you ever even seen ten different ones in total on the road in your entire life? Unless you are an Elfin owner or employee most people will have never seen one and never will.

Oh, and I suppose you have your food delivered and don't go supermarket shopping or to buy that very expensive furniture at IKEA, right? ;-)

@Lysander: You said there was no Aussie brand cars, Loopylou responded with one. You then go on a nonsensical rant, seems to me that you got served and can't handle it

        • @Lysander: Bad guess way off with age marital status the last one is right.

Maybe if you stopped thinking you know it all and understand there is more than just the average. I didnt even know elfin existed until Loopy suggested that.

Stop throwing around accusations, and think that you know everything. Your poor attempt at humour/sarcasim is pointless.

Face the fact you were corrected there is a car brand owned in australia and move on with your day

        • @Mikinoz:

Must have missed the bit on their website where it says it is Australian owned. Just says Australian made. Toyota is Australian made but not Australian owned.
Sorry, you just want to be difficult. And you even admitted that I am right - you didn't even know Elfin.
But let me make it clear for you.

An Australian owned and made car brand that is not a niche manufacturer, is well known in Australia and abroad (is a world brand) and produces more than 50,000 cars a year. A company that is comparable to VW as that is what the post is about?

You know that this was what my comment was directed at and so does LoopyLou. But sure, bringing some niche manufacturer selling 500 cars a year into the equation really shows you are right.

The point is: just because of the emissions issues VWs and its technology are not suddenly shit. A VW is still a fine piece of machinery, much more capable and more technologically advanced than any Australian owned AND made car brand.

        • +1

@Lysander: Best to shut up now your point was proved invalid, your rant proved you are incapable of logic. Maybe you need something else to do, you sound like a real fun person. And you think we all know what you are thinking, slightly cray cray.

        • The point is: just because of the emissions issues VWs and its technology are not suddenly shit. A VW is still a fine piece of machinery, much more capable and more technologically advanced than any Australian owned AND made car brand.

You're wrong. They're overpriced pieces of garbage with "premium" interiors to assuage the gullible. I'll remind you why to substantiate my position.

When the "cheat" was activated, the emissions were close to claimed figures. When the cheat was disabled, the emissions were ten to forty times worse. In order to be competitive with the likes of Ford, Renault, BMW or any comparable 1.6-2.0l diesel engine, they had to cheat. Stripped bare of their deception, they weren't even close.

So I hope VAG fade into obscurity, as they rightly deserve. There's nothing innovative about using one platform (MQB) to make dozens of over-rated cars. It's all about cost savings for them and gouging the consumer…while lying about it.

To be fair, I've been disappointed with Aussie makes for years, as they were too slow to respond to rising oil prices. They were so dumb, they couldn't look to recent history (1970s) when the oil crisis hit and Honda (with the Civic) cleaned up, became a huge success and sowed the seeds of demise for the US auto industry.

Ford didn't release a diesel Territory until that car was 7 years old, despite the #1 criticism of it being the poor fuel economy. The diesel Fiesta I believe is made overseas. As for Holden, I don't recall a diesel passenger car in their lineup. I'm not counting their SUVs as they're also made overseas.

*Since glorified kit cars qualify, let's not forget the lovely Bufori, Devaux and Bolwell.

  • What's going on here? Swapping two pieces of fruit for a mal tested vehicle??

  • If someone wants a VW they will buy a VW and will not worry about this emissions crap.
    I know im not.
if I could neg a forum post this would be the one to be.
Are the Japanese manufactures paying you to post this? To scare away buyers from euro cars…..

Steven Roe bought a Skoda diesel in 2012 because of its low emissions.

Lol no one I know of takes emissions into account when car buying. Economy yes, emissions no. And you'd have worked out the economy of the car over 3 months, let alone 3 years!

It's a Skoda… resale was never going to be great in this country!

    Hi ChrisLevo,
The topic is ok, but as your presentation might be too abstract for us here.
Would you consider rewriting it quickly (Title and Body) to engage people to discuss this issue.

Were you perhaps looking for a new car and considering VWs. Are you still considering VW, and wanting opinions?
