Telstra Topup Credit on Freedom+ (Prepaid)

I copped a lot of heat for the last Telstra deal I published, so I am putting this in the forum area instead.

There appears to be an undocumented feature at the moment where any "Top Up Credit" you have is used instead of recharge credit for Android Play Store purchases.

You accrue Top Up Credit by receiving a Credit Me2U.

For example, if person A sends person B $10 via Credit Me2U, person A's recharge credit is reduced by $10.25, and person B's goes up by $10. This is documented and expected.

However, if the recipient is on the Freedom+ prepaid deal, they also receive 1Gb of bonus data, along with $10 Top Up Credit. People have wondered for a while what the Top Up Credit can be used for, and (at least since a couple of days ago) it is usable on the Android Store.

This actually means that by sending $10 back and forth between two people, they spend $0.25 total and receive 1gb and $10 credit for the play store. They can repeat this each day.

I will not say anything about what you can do with that credit. But if you are reading this far, you probably have a good idea of how it can be used.

  • So you are saying you can do this each day and at the end of the month will have heaps of data and hundreds in Google play credit? Surely if so it won't last long before telstra stops it .

It won't take them long at all. Last time Nicois reported a similar glitch on here it was shut down within a day.

How about some full disclosure Nicois?

A lot of people were left with google play credit last time, that Nicois hopes you will spend on his google play app that he says will repay you 50% of your credit in cash, but often doesn't pay you anything after taking your credit…

Some of the reviews from his app :-

Dont buy - Beware Took my money and showed an error. I am short $20 and never got the money either. Dont use. Beware

Do not use This is a useless app. It does nothing but take your google play credit.

Scam. DONT LISTEN TO THE DEVELOPERS REPLY HES A SCAMMER

Well well, your prediction came true

    • Haha- how long have you been doing it/ how many sims?

      • -1

You don't need more than a couple of sims. You will generate $10 per SIM per day..

It's even sweeter when you buy the $30 starter packs for $10.

        • Yep I have lots of cheap Sims - the only thing that concerns me is any come back from telstra once they realise how much money they lose.

    • Too funny! So they haven't closed it off for a long time.

That was fast, Telstra patched everything.

    Thanks nicoic.

  • Nooooooooo. Whyyyyy?

Thanks Gerd, good on you for shutting him up once and for all, or perhaps for a while, while he goes poking something/someone else.

Who is Gerd? Is he a bikie that accepts google play credit as payment?

      • +1

@Gerd Schenkel is Executive Director, Telstra Digital Sales and Service

He doesn't look like a bikie to me, but he'll happily accept your recharge credit in exchange for services ;)

Did you not learn from last time you posted about the $1 CM2U = 500MB glitch? Now you've got the cheap Top-Up credit AND the new cheap data glitch. Thanks…

  • He knows exactly what he's doing. Some people are special like that.

  • sorry to hijack, I have Telstra freedom Night prepaid ($0 balance probable exp Nov 2016 as of last recharge)

If I get a $30 prepaid started kit can I put that SIM in the the mobile,
Then set up call diversion from $0 old sim and be able to do all things like a normal phonne do?

Then on expiry of $30 sim (at the end of the month) activate another sim and do the same.

This way if I have discounted $30 sim starter kits I could save some money for the whole year?
    Is this possible.

If the above is possible what are the Pro's and cons of call diversion using the above?
    Thanks

    • if your phone got no credit, I don't think it allow call diversion because call diversion is treated as calling the number being diverted to, but slightly cheaper rate.

      • but isn't it an incoming call and if someone is calling they are being charged fr that and my phone just forwards that call to the other number?

        Thanks for answering,
So the number from where the calls are diverted need to have credit. (in my case the main mobile)?
What about the phone where they are being forwarded to, does it need to have credit?

The caller apart from their usual call out rate do they get charged more?

        • callers don't get charge more because they have no way of knowing wether the number they're about to call has diversion or not (actually call tone may give this away but not everyone know this)
Call diversion doesn't cost much if the diversion number and the number being diverted to are in the same network, with different network it may cost a bit more, but I think most of the cost relate to initiate the diversion, the call duration may not matter much. But this's how telcos making their money, just like the case of sms markup cost so we unfortunately have no choice. The phone receiving the diverted call will not need any credit, because as well it technically just receiving the call.

        • @lgacb08:
          So both phones receiving calls
          Sorry I am confused now.
          Which numbers
Main Number$0 balance(All incoming calls diverted/forward) to > Another Number(Same Network) May have $ credit

Callers calling from their mob/landline to the my main number.
Can you lease explain with the above example

        • @SlipKnot: suppose caller is A, A call B, B divert the call to C
Then A pay normal rate of the call set by their network, B pay diversion fee and need credit to do that, C don't have to pay for anything, so C can have 0 balance. Diversion rate is normally around the same rate of calling other mobile.
