  • Is this the cheapest device just to use as a hotspot for 4GX?

    • I think this is the best device for the price. I got mine from DSE with $10 MatesRate discount (I don't know how, I just asked the girl and she applied the discount of $10 instead of 10%) so I paid $53 for this phone… The screen quality is quite good and it is fast. Also you can set limit for data usage with Android phone, not like those wifi dongle.

I don't see any reasons why people pay higher price the dongle for with less features _ If you want extra battery life then you can get 10000mAH XiaoMi Powerbank or 20000+ Romoss Power bank for cheap price.

      • It's $10 discount according to this page http://www.dicksmith.com.au/mates-rates

      • Perhaps it's because the dongle is cheaper?

        https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/tel…

        $69 with 6gb data

        • Does anyone know how many client connections you can have at a time?

I take my dongle on holiday and when I do I have 2 phones and up to 3 tablets connecting. Sometimes we take a Wii and 1 or 2 laptops. I don't think we'd be using them all simultaenously of course but having to disconnect and reconnect or reboot the phone would be a pain.

I think from reading most Android devices can handle 5, with some capped at 6, 8 or even 10. Anyone had at least 5 devices connected to this phone? Anyone had more?

All but one of my dongles can feed 10 devices. I have multiple because I got them on clearance and they came with starter data.

  • I think there might also be android 5 support now, which the competing Optus model doesn't have.

cheap phone with 700mhz 4G band coverage.

  • These are a great budget phone.
Just as good as my Moto G first gen.

  • Wow! $7.90 discount!

    • Was was $99.

  • Full specs here, it's only good for those on telstra, doesn't have 900 network band for optus

    • Optus is also on 700mhz so its ideal

      • Only for Data. Once you need to make a call, it'll be useless since you need VoLTE support for it to make calls on LTE (4G).

  • I reckon this phone will be cheaper in few weeks time.

  • Depends if it goes end of model this currently cheapest 4g with 700mhz phone you can get

  • Unlock codes are on ebay

  • Will this work with Boost mobile?

    • Not sure.

    • +2

Yes as that's why my wife uses.

    • +2

Definitely works. Have Boost sims in both mine & my daughter's Telstra Buzz phones (bought last week).

  • +3

It's still $63 in store at Dick Smith.

  • why is showing $79 at checkout after filling in all details ? any one knows why? thanks .

PS: im waiting in que no. 27 with Telstra LIVE CHAT .. Amazing, even LIve Chat must que now too ( not just the phone support) ..

    • Call. It's way faster

      • thanks for that, im in que 6 now

  • +1

its confirm by LIVE CHAT , its pricing error at checkout , and they need 3-5 business days to fix: "Kindly give us 3-5 business days to fix the error in the website. As an assurance, I will give you a reference number for this escalation. "

this is the landing site: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/tel…

    and
this the checkout site with wrong price:

  • I just used this on a trip to gold coast. It works really well and the battery life is quite good. The only downside is it has a crappy screen, but if you're using it just as a 4gx wifi hotspot then that's no issue. It's not a bad android phone in it's own right though. I played star wars force commander on it with no issue.

    • How is the camera quality?

      • +1

Pretty crappy but acceptable for taking snapshots for ozbargain :D. It's probably as good as my wifes nexus 4 but nowhere near my lg g2

  • -2

Bought this for $63, and very happy - great little phone.

Current reports over on Whirlpool that this is now on sale at Big W and JB Hifi for $29 (unconfirmed). If it's true, jump on it…!!

    • The Tempo is the one coming up on the BigW web site as $29. Not as good.

  • Available for 53 (mention the mates rates) at Dick Smith, Westfield Woden. Two more left.

  • Just checked Telstra's web site and this deal has finished. Its back up to $79.

  • can you install chrome cast on it and stream stuff to TV ?

    • Yup, it's running Android Lollipop.

Both the phone and Chromecast will need to be on the same WiFi network.

  • +1

Just bought one at Dick Smith, still $53 with mates rate, even though mates rate excludes mobile phones, the staff were none the wiser.

    • How did you get the mates rate? DId you just mention it to the checkout person? Thanks

      • Yes, I told him others were getting it, he said it's on your next purchase, i then said i'd buy a $2 sim if i had to, he then spoke to other staff member and they scanned a code they had.

        • Thanks Mate

  • This phone is shocking.

  • +1

Bought last one from DSE in Winston Hills. Pity it's white but faceplate is black so shrug. I don't know what people are complaining about for a sub $100 phone. I haven't tried calls yet but while screen is nothing to write home about it's totally okay. Google Play works. Apps work. Not too laggy. Cheap and cheerful.

Now the question is what do you name a phone whose model name is Buzz….Lightyear or Aldrin?

  • +1
  • How good are these headphones ?

    • I have the same question.

      • Amazon is your friend.

        http://www.amazon.com/Monster-DNA-On-Ear-Headphones-Black/pr…

The pictures of the broken ones don't inspire confidence. Some really harsh reviews…always the case but perhaps too many in this case. I'm on the fence. I don't care about look or brand. I only care about sound quality, durability, comfort and perhaps isolation in that order. When people compare them to really cheap headphones and say they don't belong in the price bracket it kinda stings. When you get multiple pictures of the covering on the pads tearing off it's hard to like them. Duct tape doesn't belong on headphones. Then again you're paying $63 and getting a phone and if stocks last you get these. I paid $63 for just the phone.

  • I brought it… i'm curious… a good price for both head phones and phone & $10 cash back from cash rewards I suppose

    • +1

where are you bringing it to? hopefully everywhere since it is a mobile..

      • I'm 25 y/o and still get confused which one is which.

  • +2

Does Cash Rewards offer $10 on this as when I go to their web site the $10 is only off the prepaid Sim Starter kit.

    • Try pricepal. I remember seeing $10 this morning.

      • Yep worked.

        • Yup worked n I got a mail from pricepal stating that u will get $1 for every $2 cashback extra. And if we minus $10 telstra credit it comes around $38 for phone n headset

  • Will this phone work with virgin?will be used mainly for data. also whats the camera like?

  • Buyinggg oneee

  • This is awesome. Can't believe I didn't see this post earlier.
Just ordered.. It says "Bonus Gift". Nothing about headphones???

  • How is everyone tracking their orders ?

  • +1

Got it this morning. It came with the headphones. Thanks op.

  • +1

I got 2 phones + 2 headphones delivered for $106.4 after cashrewards. I'm very surprised that this deal has yet to be OzBargained.

    • Did you have 2 orders under the same name ?

      • Yes

  • -1

I do and I called to confirm I would be getting 2 headphones and the answer was yes.
They turned up the next day at 8:45am, I was out the back and missed the call, went up to the post office later that day with the wifes passport (used as ID for order as I have to many devices in my name) and then had a 20 minute argument because they reckon they can only give them to the actual person who is on the documentation.
I did see the boxes, he had them infront of me and they were bigger than phone boxes so headphones x 2.
Didnt matter that we have the same last name, same address and I had all the correct documents.
A phone call from my wife giving authorisation wouldn't work.
Reckons he cant do it as its a sackable offence. I pointed out that his was a franchised store and he was the owner so how would he be sacked? I wasnt going to tell anyone, perhaps he was stupid enough to dob himself in?

Drama for me is the wife is in Melbourne until next Thursday and they say they will get sent back to sender by then and he refuses to hold it for an extra day
Oz post nazis, pretty pathetic bunch

    • Oh come on. TELSTRA requires your ID to be verified. NOT Aust Post.

      • +1

Star Track required ID upon delivery…………

        • +1

And I am fine with that and had a full 100 points or more when I tried to collect.

Wifes meeting finished early so she came home this afternoon.
She went to the post office passport in hand and the Oz post nazi , wife of the owner this time was equally as idiotic.

She looked at the passport, looked at the wife, looked at the passport again, asked her to confirm her name and then to top it off demanded her licence as secondary ID.

Couldnt f'en believe it when she came home and told me.
Anyone would think she was collecting a thermo nuclear device.

  • +1

    my cashrewards didnt track :(

    • Neither, is there any way we can request them to look into it?

  • I might order another one today.
    One phone for each child.
    Every 4 yo needs a 4G smartphone.
Put the headphones on Gumtree and get all my money back.

  • For anyone who will order now, stock availability is low and it might take up to 2 weeks to fulfill the order.

  • Being a utter cheapskate, what is the best option if I do wanted to use the Freedom Plus offer ($15-5GB bonus).
Would I be better off buying a separate starter kit SIM, claim $10 off Cashrewards?
Because there seems to be no half price discount for Freedom Plus if I were to activate the SIM that comes with the phone.

  • Bought one. Worth it just for the headphone even if you end up selling it! Unlocked through ebay seller as well. Good deal!

  • I received my Lumia 640 & monster dna headphone today. The phone looks and feels better than my old Lumia 520, but not as good as my Lumia 1020. The headphone sounds good and comfortable to wear on, it sounds better than my jebra move wireless headphone.

For anyone who didn't heard anything from Telstra, you can try to talk to their live chat support, they will be able to track your order and process it for you! But remember to provide your name and order reference number.

  • i received my 2x 4GX and dna headphones today :-)
happy with the phone.. still undecided to use the headphones or sell them :-)

  • Phone arrived today, (ordered on Wednesday) no ID on delivery (I wasn't home, but someone else was).

Phone is great. Better than Huawei Y550, IMHO.

Lollipop = encryption. Haven't set it up yet (still charging).

    Nearly 5Gb available after updates.

Headphones look awesome (I will not open the package of the headphones, they will be a gift/prize for someone more deserving), quick google suggests $80 to $100 for the headphones.

I like the soft-touch back on the phone, I am finished with slippery phones and/or cases.

    Thanks OP

    Well Done

    • Only catch is, Y550 supports all 3 major 3G bands, so they're more versatile in terms of 3G networks. This and the Optus ZTE Fit both have LTE700, but the Fit lacks 3G-850 for Voda and Telstra, while the Buzz lacks 3G-900 for Optus. Same goes for the successor to the Y550, the Y635 (no 3G-850 on the variant sold by Optus).

  • This $6 case and screen protector arrived yesterday
Nice fit and a non slip back.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181900549857?_trksid=p2057872.m27…

Bagman unlocked the phone within a few hours and now running Aldi
Speed on data (same 3g) is much faster than my previous phone and tablet.

  • +1

Phone works good as a Wi-fi hoptspot, I get faster speeds than with the Huawei E5372T

  • .. i just got mine but without the headset despite my order saying that it'll come with it :(

    • Get onto Telstra about it

    • That's very bad. Talk to them asap and ask for the headset or return the phone with the seals intact for full refund.

      • +1

Yeah, called them just after i got the package. Kind of annoyed with their help services though. They chucked me around departments telling me that they didnt have the tools to help me. Started with the Telstra 24/7 and after a few departments later i ended up at the Telstra 24/7 again X-x

        • Did you end up getting the headphones?

        • @hamerix: I'm still waiting for it ><

        • i have not received my phone and they said they did not find my order number in the system. Telstra customer service is hopeless.

    • +1

I'm in the same boat, multiple phone calls and web chats later I've just been lied to.
They all say it will be fixed in 24-48 hours, and then 3 days later I contact them and they say it normally takes 5-7 days.
It's been two weeks now and still no headphones.
      Appalling customer service, just disgusting.
I'm now pursuing a refund and that process is difficult and just a joke.

      • I agree Telstra customer service is a joke

  • This phone is actually called a ZTE Blade Qlux.
There is a thread on it on Whirpool

  • +1

For those who bought this, does buying white phone = white headphones and black phone = black headphones?

  • Following up on my post, it's been two weeks overdue that they were meant to send me the missing headsets. They said they're out of stock and are working to resolve the problem.

    • Good luck, I spoke to Telstra today and they no longer have any record of my purchase and want me to send them proof that I actually bought the phone from them.

  • +2

Now they removed the headset which makes this deal less appealing now.

  • +1

Just received both Buzz and Monster DNA in a deliver box. Thanks to OP and the OZ community!

  • +2

Man this was a hell of a bargain.
A 4G phone, headphones and 5gb data for $53.20 delivered after $10.00 cash back from Cashrewards.
    Plus only $5.95 to unlock.
I think it slipped past a lot of Professionals. It really should of received a lot more votes.
Now to top it off I am getting free Telstra Air wifi to the middle of 2016.
One of the best bargains of the year for me, thanks OP.

  • I got the phone last week without headphones :(

  • Thanks for your recent Pre-Paid mobile purchase.

We are sorry to let you know that the Bonus Gift with Purchase (Monster DNA Headphones) is out-of-stock. We try our very best to be accurate with inventory but on this occasion we experienced unexpected demand on the headphones.
