2015 Kia Rio 3 Door 6speed Manual

I have spent the majority of the weekend and today looking for a new car for my girlfriend. Today i stumbled into a kia dealership and after alot of haggling i managed to get a price of $13000 for the kia rio. It is brand new, not a demostrator, 3door, white, 6 speed manual. It comes standard with all the usual stuff, blue tooth, ac, usb input. The kicker for me is the 7 year unlimited kms warranty and cap priced servicing.i was surprised how good it was on the test drive. I have never owned a kia before and i know nothing about the brand. All the reviews on the Internet seem to be positive and i think $13000 for a brand new car is more than reasonable. Just after advice/reviews of the rio or the kia brand in general. Also if anyone could recommend a better car for similar money it would help.

I am paying cash so fiance is no issue.

Thanks.

Congrats..good choice. You won't regret it. There will always be Kia haters as their older cars did let them down but their newer models are excellent and as a current owner I couldn't be happier.

at $13k 7yrs and supposedly under 1,000km demo, how can you do better?

  • It's a 3-door car, of course it will be 'cheap'. True test is resale, but with that sort of deal on the new one it should be ok. '14 models are ~$10-11k and '13 models are $9-10k you should be ok.

What other cars have you driven?

  • I have looked at the Mazda 2, ford fiesta/focus, golf, alto, mirage, fiat 500, mini cooper and the i30. Obviously I would prefer the golf or focus but I was looking at nearly double the price of the Rio. My girlfriend does a lot of driving, about 40000km per year, we plan on keeping it for about 5 years so I am aware no matter what car I buy the resale is not going to be that good. The alto and the mirage are of similar price but in my opinion no where near as refined and the 6 speed manual makes it pretty fun as well. Am I missing any cars I should check out?

Swift would've been worth looking at while you looked at the Alto (or do you mean the Celerio?), for $14,990. But then Suzuki servicing is every 10,000km (Kia is every 15,000km) so it'll cost you if she does 40k/yr!
What does she do to do so many kms?!

  • Meant the celerio, did not like it at all. My girlfriend lives in Newcastle (taking care of her sick dad) but works and visits me in Sydney. She currently has a 1995 corolla so anything will be an upgrade

    • If you're looking at the Celerio class of car, look at the Mitsubishi Mirage.

celerios and mirages are garbage class cars

made in india? 1.0 3 cyl? yuck

look at the interior - its disgusting cheap looking bad smelling plastic mouldings

  • FRIGGING GRAB IT!!! Hyundai and Kia are the same company, just slight tweaks between the both and ironically guess who has improved their reliability lately! Be warned, they used to be awesome at blowing sensors but, apart from being boring to drive they are pretty good (and parts are cheap if you know where to go).

If you intend on turning it into beer cans (or selling it) at the end you'll do well.

I'd personally grab the new Fiesta but I love my handling.

  • Had a Kia Rio 2011 as a rental car a few months back. really liked it for city driving. awesome fuel econonmy. one outstanding feature are 7 shelves/pockets with in arms length of the driver - 1 for phone, 1 for wallet, 1 for sunglasses, etc. it was a small thing but something which I find lacking in my 2013 outlander aspire.

  • I've had my Kia Rio (Auto Sport 5 door) for 5 years now, it's been running like a dream, servicing is cheap and not a single issue.

My brother bought his 3 years ago and he hasn't had an issue either.

I would definitely buy another Kia and you got yourself an awesome deal.

  • I'm looking at The rio and test drove today.
Really liked it bar the headrest seems to sit quite a bit forward. How have you found it?
