Note 4 warranty rejected, now phone is completely broken.

Hey guys so I brought a note 4 last year from a sale at the good guys. Fast forward to about 3 weeks ago phone starts to freeze once a day or so.

So I whipe the phone and do a full reinstall, still freezing. (Phone is still useable just freezing from time to time) I take it back to the good guys and they send it away. One week later I get a call saying it has water damage. By the best of my knowledge there was none.

$770 quote to repair the phone or have it sent back. I get it sent back and try to turn it back on it gets to the screen where it says "Samsung galaxy note 4" switches off then back on and repeats.

I am thinking that they either broke it and won't admit, or there just out to make money. They said the digitizer and a few other things where gone even though the phone worked perfectly even s pen features now nothing works.

So I'm wondering what can I do about this I am certain I didn't cause any water damage can I report this to some government body or do I just suck it and buy a new phone.

Also they apparently sent me proof of water damage a photo of the back of the back cover ( I don't even use that back) and there are no electronics on that part. And a photo of the bottom charger which shows me nothing again the phone still charged and data transferred still worked when I backed it up.

They sent you a picture of damaged hardware that didn't belong to you? How did you respond to that? If you haven't pointed that out yet, perhaps now would be the time.

    • On the note 4 the back cover is removable I put the original back on when I sent it away and kept the sview cover at home. They took a picture of that back.

  • Have you got the serial number of the device you returned? Could be a good way to prove its a different device.

    • Might check the invoice this arvo

  • Oh they tried that bullshit with me as well. Sent me a photo showing "A" water damaged phone. No electronics. Patches of water damaged area. I was lucky as i was with Optus so told them i will not take this bullshit. If a phone is not built properly enough to be used on an everyday basis then it is not fit for purpose. I refused to pay my phone bill. Optus replaced my phone.

I will try the same in your case but go through Good Guys writing to them. Call them and ask for an email or fax number as to where to send your complaint. Do that, followed by another complaint to ACCC or OFT.

I got a laptop 6 months out of warranty replaced through Goodguys with Toshiba.

  • The back cover will not stop the phone from working. The phone can work without a cover, unless they have a photo of water damage on the actual handset then that is bullshit.
If you backed up(the backup has a timestamp) the phone just before giving it to them maybe you can suggest that that is proof that the phone worked before you gave it to them, if in the current state you can't access it at all through USB.

    • Yeah well they have it on record at tgg that is was working. Might try to get that info from them as well.

  • By the sounds of it, the photos are just there to show you some liquid has entered the phone. It doesn't matter that there aren't electrics there. Apple has 3 sensors even though you may not trip a sensor it doesnt mean they'll replace it. If they see evidence of liquid damage, they will still knock it back.

When liquid enters the phone after a while it will dry, so you could have your phone completely immersed in water and the only evidence might be a patch near the cover.

Hopefully you get them to replace the phone.

Try what the others have suggested.

  • +1

That's the main reason with Android phones…they great but when it comes to Warranty, it has nothing on Apple..

Shits like this is the only reason I'm still using an iphone today. I had a s3 and it was such a mess when it had prob

  • A member of whirlpool had this issue and took some action against the phone manufacturer.
Didnt see any update on the thread for a long time but havent seen that thread for a while now.

I recall the member played the bluff and got the evidence that ghey damaged his handset and was going tocourt……would like to find out what happened.

  • Do as others said above, also doesn't hurt to Write a post to TGG on fb accusing them of refusing to fix phone etc.., get friends to like/share it, last thing they want is bad publicity..
