Virgin No Cancellation Fee???

I was told by Virgin when I signed up that Virgin mobile doesn't have cancellation fees!!
even when I go through the forums there is no early cancellation fee, just need to pay the remaining phone repayments, which seems ridiculously good (on our part)
I signed up for the Nexus 6P on 55 ($40 plan + $15)
so if i cancel now, I just need to pay 15x24=360
I should've signed up for the one with only $5 phone repayments..
has anyone have experience with this?
seems like it'll be so easy to abuse this

  • Mate. Just no.

    • just no what?

      • When you signed the contract, you agreed to pay off the phone in 24 lots of $15.

To leave the contract with the phone, you need to fulfil that promise.

Did you read the contract before signing it?

yeh exactly i'd need to pay 24x15 when i cancel that's what im saying..$360
they dont have any other fees when terminating
great price for new nexus 6p

          Damn, completely misinterpreted your post!

If they're letting you leave with a $360.00 Nexus 6P, just obtain that in writing, pay the fee now and go go go!

Virgin is being a bit sneaky on this. They add what's called Virgin mobile's contribution to the phone payment on top of your $15 per month. It is this total x number of months left that you have to pay if you want to leave. The amount Virgin Mobile 'contributes' monthly can be found in your bill. For example my phone payments were $21 on my iPhone but Virgin's 'contribution' was $40 or so per month.

    • ahh of course, just read the info on the contract sheet and says 'including those we were going to cover'
just a clever way of going about saying they dont have cancellation fee

You can't cancel in the first six months. And you would need to pay out the full cost of the phone not just your monthly repayments. Phone repayments are made up of your contribution and Virgin's contribution. The more your plan costs the more Virgin are willing to put towards your phone. That's why you can get some phones with $0 repayments on higher plans. What lahiruwan said is correct but they're not being sneaky, they're paying for your phone. You're trying to be sneaky by looking for a way to rip them off.

The sneaky bit is telling customers there's no cancellation fee but hiding the virgin's contribution in the small print

There is no cancellation fee, you don't have to pay a 'fee' to cancel your contract. Other telcos charge you a fee to cancel in addition to the money you owe for the phone.

        • Been using Virgin. Very fair to customers, no sneaky marketing like others like the Yes (that turns No after signing up).
