Need Help ASAP with Specs for Custom Build Gaming PC, I Am a Noob

So I have two builds/specs im looking at first one is

Nanoxia Deep Silence 4 Claw White Case or Corsair Carbide Spec-03 White LED Mid Tower Case
MSI Z170M MORTAR LGA 1151 micro-ATX Motherboard
Kingston Hyperx Fury 8GB 2x4GB DDR4 Kit Black
Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1 TB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
Sandisk SSD 250GB
770 Asus 4GB GPU
ASUS DRW-24D3ST 24x Internal OEM DVD Burner Drive
Intel Core i5 6600K Quad Core LGA 1151 3.5 GHz Unlocked CPU Processor
Corsair VS Series 650W Power Supply

Does this all work ? and is this any good setup?

Second

Corsair Carbide Spec-03 White LED Mid Tower Case
Corsair VS Series 650W Power Supply
ASUS DRW-24D3ST 24x Internal OEM DVD Burner Drive
Sandisk SSD 250GB
770 Asus 4GB GPU
Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Memory Black HX316C10FBK2/8

Which setup is better? their pretty much costing me the same, I think the top one is slightly cheaper. will I have any problems with these builds? I am not sure if all of it is right as im a noob I really could use some help aspa please.

Comments

  • They are very, very similar. Same CPU, same GPU, same HD/SSD combo. One has DDR4 Ram, other has DDR3, and DDR4 RAM is faster. Both have 8GB of RAM, which is perhaps getting a bit small these days.

  • First one is a newer build, running a Skylake Chipset. Not sure about part compatibility, but all seems fine at a glance. What does the total price come to for the first build?

Second build is older, probably not worth the consideration when compared with the first, especially if the price between them is negligible. What was the total cost for the second build?

  • 920 for first build, second is 894
all without 770 and ssd as I have them already. oops so second one is slightly cheaper my bad lol..im not sure about part compatibility as well

  • I will need a CPU cooler with first build I just noticed so it will cost a bit more then 920 does anyone know any good cpu coolers that are easy to install and cheap?

    • First build is the way to go. Now with a CPU Cooler, it'll all depend on the case size. There are a few decent brands out there, (Coolermaster, Nuctua, ect) so it's just about picking something that will fit and is functional.

      Are you building it yourself?

      • yes

  • Would be good if you put the two lists in the same order for comparison so:

Intel Core i5 6600K Quad Core LGA 1151 3.5 GHz Unlocked CPU Processor
    VS
Intel Core i5 4690 Quad Core LGA 1150 3.5GHz CPU Processor
Top one is newer, less power consumption but doesn't come with CPU cooler so you will need to buy one, about $50 for a Coolermaster Hyper 212X will do : https://www.pccasegear.com/products/22829 should fit in Corsair case because I've got similar case, don't know about the other case

    MSI Z170M MORTAR LGA 1151 micro-ATX Motherboard
    VS
MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition LGA 1150 ATX Motherboard
Looks like similar specs, main difference is that the first one is a micro ATX motherboard so will be smaller in a big case. I'd suggest this board for the first combination, https://www.pccasegear.com/products/33852, supports m.2 and is a full board. Get an m.2 ssd instead of a sata, much faster.

Kingston Hyperx Fury 8GB 2x4GB DDR4 Kit Black
    VS
    Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Memory Black HX316C10FBK2/8
First one is DDR4, second is DDR3, basically older vs newer, not much real world difference.

Nanoxia Deep Silence 4 Claw White Case or Corsair Carbide Spec-03 White LED Mid Tower Case
    VS
Corsair Carbide Spec-03 White LED Mid Tower Case
No real difference, case is usually preference and looks

The other components are the same so no difference.

    • Oh right sorry, If I get that board it boosts up the price a bit, is the m.2 much difference in speed? not sure if I need it or not

ASUS Z170-P LGA 1151 ATX Motherboard seems to be same price as MSI Z170M MORTAR LGA 1151 micro-ATX Motherboard and has m.2

      • M.2 is faster but prob won't tell the difference, just saves not needing to power the SSD, I noticed you said you had the SSD already and I'm assuming it's a SATA one so m.2 doesn't really matter unless you actually have a m.2 ssd.

Have you factored in an OS like Windows? where are you sourcing the parts from? if it's online you have to factor in delivery.

        Screen, keyboard and mouse?

        Also, wifi card?

        • got screen keyboard mouse and wifi card already, and its online parts. yes its a Sata one so maybe ill just go with the small motherboard instead

  • Gigabyte H170-Gaming 3 LGA 1151 Motherboard vs MSI Z170A Tomahawk Motherboard the gigabyte one is 20 dollars cheaper

  • also changing to Corsair CX 80+ Bronze 600 Watt Power Supply
