Claiming the TRS for Checked Luggage

Can I claim the TRS for checked luggage? I bought a couple of new suitcases, but I'll be checking them in. Is there a TRS counter landside at Melbourne Airport?

Thanks!

Yes, there is a TRS counter in the arrivals area at Melbourne Airport where you can get your perfumes, etc. checked if you are going to claim TRS on them. They basically verify the items and stamp your tax invoice, which you can then take inside to the TRS counter for your refund (and you can safely include your items in the checked luggage).

    • Thanks, very helpful :)

  • I was wondering about this as well.
I bought a couple Nutri Ninja blenders and some others bulky stuff for my parents, and not sure on how to claim TRS.

Here's a snippet from TRS at Sydney Airport
To claim a refund you must:

"wear or carry the goods on board as hand luggage (unless they are liquids, gels or aerosols or oversized or bulky goods which must be checked in) and present them along with your tax invoice, passport and international boarding pass to the TRS desk"

Does it means I can just claim TRS without presenting the items?
Does it need to be in original packaging?

    • Also does everything have to be on single receipt?
Or can it be on multiple receipts from one shop?

See my reply above… there must be a TRS counter at Sydney airport where you can get your goods verified before checking them in.

Re the receipts, it's OK to have multiple provided they are from the same shop. But be careful as if it's a franchise store like chemist warehouse, the receipts from different CW would not work. All receipts should have the same ABN and the total must be > $300.

        • Great, I'll try to find out.
          Thanks
