Parking Mode Dash Cams

I am after a reasonably priced, decent quality and not too bulky dash cam with parking mode.

If anyone is able to recommend one, I'd love to hear your suggestions!

  • make sure if you get one with parking mode/ motion detection and you keep it activated that you get one of these:

Will prevent your car battery going flat

I have a blackvue 650gw 2ch cam, comes with all the bells and whistles sans bulky screenwhich it makes up with in cylindrical design (and live casting), compact enough to tuck behind the rear view mirror as to not obstruct view but would be out of your price range.

    • Thanks for that. My excess is $1,000 so getting one would be an investment so I would be happy to spend a "little bit more".

  • I have an older Blackvue (550GW 2 channel), works well in parking mode but you need a Powermagic pro so it can provide power without draining your battery flat (you can set various options for power cut).

  • what is reasonable to you may not be reasonable to another…..need a range

as posted above you need some power management in order to have this feature and i dont know about you…i wouldn't know how do install hard wires so i would need an auto electrician to do it

other things to take into account
    +does not capture sides
+many of the low/mid end dashcams dont work well at night while driving, so if you want to capture incidents at night with no headlights on…..well results are going to be hit and miss

    • Thank you. With it not capturing the sides…. I am interested in getting one because most of my incidents happen in car parks, when my car is stopped… What would in your opinion be the optimum spot for the camera considering that I rarely reverse park?

      • Like humdingaling said, its not going to cover all bases, but a dashcam is a good investment eitherway. I have one because my car is cop bait.

finding a constant 12v source isnt hard either if you know where to look (ignition barrel) and have multimeter. the rest is up to your competency in DIY.

      • i would suggest you got with the front and back one….even though you reverse park….
you will evidently find that you will be parked in carparks where you will have cars on the other side as well
so you may be bumped that way

or that one time you park forward…..
