we got the Kmart one last year. Its much better than a normal fan on a hot summer day. Throw some ice cubes in the tank and it blows out cool air. Sound wise its not the quietest fan but not very loud. I hope this helps.

    • How is it in terms of energy efficiency ?

      • Its 60 watts. So its equivalent to running about 5 energy saving lights. We haven't noticed much of difference running it. Then again we use the built in timer. So turns off after a while.

    Some helpful info here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1368478
In some instances a portable aircon might be better, more $ i know, and portable ac's are known for being noisy.

Keep in mind that an evap cooler will increase the humidity in your place, so air properly when it is cooler outside.
(and don't have it directed at electronics ;P)

  • And browsing the Aldi catalog, they have one on sale on 5 December, $399
