Buying Hyundai I30 or Elantra?

I have recently bought a 09/2012 Toyota corolla Auto sedan govt fleet car with 38,000 KMS for 14K with 3 years warranty from a dealer with rego till 02/2016. After seeing the current Hyundai sale for I30 auto for 21K drive away/ Elantra auto for 20K drive away tempting me to trade-in my Corolla and purchase a new Hyundai car.

Could you please help me with your suggestions. I would appreciate if you share your thoughts.

Hold on to the Toyota…it's way better than the others.

    • Thanks 'nocure' for your kind thoughts, even my friends advised to stay with Toyota. (Hyundai price and warranty is tempting).

      • I'm inclined to agree too, your corolla will likely outlive the new hyundai anyway

I've had two toyotas and two hyundais over last 10 years, and do all service and mechanics myself.
Keep the toyota if it's in good condition and suits your needs.

        • Thank you…Yes the Toyota is in good condition.

I currently own a 20 year old Hyundai. I love Hyundai's and think they are the BEST value NEW cars.

Having said that it is a no brainer. From a money perspective the used 2012 Toyota Corolla is the better choice. The main reason is because the Corolla has already had its biggest depreciation which the original owner paid for.

From a longevity perspective a "well maintained" Corolla will probably last 38,000km or more than a Hyundai (eg. 300,000km vs 260,000km).

The feeling of owning a new car is a lot of fun. Perhaps hang onto the Corolla for a few years until you save up more dollars + the job market becomes more stable. Instead of your choice being Toyota vs Hyundai it could be Honda vs BMW or Lexus vs Mercedes.

Anyway that's my 2 cents. Hope you have lots of fun. Its great that you are in a position to have such great choices.
