I made a post about it a while back if you want some more opinions: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/185111
I ended up being convinced that a pressure cooker was the better option. I didn't end up buying anything but if I were to I'd go with the pressure cooker.

    • Thanks, I did think about a pressure cooker but after my wife and I watched a few videos on youtube of them exploding…we decided against it. :P

We have one of the old original Crock Pots, and if you can pick up one of those, that's the way I would head. We got ours at a garage sale for about $15. After a while it developed a crack in the bowl, and we were desperate for one at the time, so went and bought a Breville one, for around $90 but found that the temperature was always too high, so ended up giving it away and managed to find a replacement bowl for the Crock Pot at one of the op shops.

    • Thanks a lot. I'm aware of Crock Pots. Unfortunately I don't have time to go and check out op shops or garage sales. I ended up buying the " Breville The Flavour Maker 5L Slow Cooker" for $80 from the TGG with the Ebay coupon. I'm a bit concerned that some reviews complain of the non-stick coating peelng off— I guess we will just not use the sear function. It was the best reviewed of the competing models on productreview.com.au though.

  • We have a really old school one. It's called an oven.

I have nothing to compare it against, but I have the Cuisinart 6.5L. Has LCD with countdown timer which switches to warm when it's done. Never had an issue over a few years, wouldn't even use it once a month though.
