First up - Thanks heaps to the OzBargain community for the support they've shown IWantThatFlight.com.au. This idea comes directly from observing posts on OzBargain.

We are thinking of adding a filter to IWantThatFlight.com.au so that it highlights Jetstar flights that can be used with their PriceBeat.

Heres how it could work:

  1. The user does a flight search as normal. Eg Sydney to Melbourne.

  2. There is a "Show Jetstar PriceBeat Flights" tickbox in the filter section. The user ticks the checkbox.

  3. Any Jetstar flights that are eligible for Pricebeat are highlighted & the reduced price shown, along with the cheaper flight (most likely a TigerAir flight). All other flights are hidden or grayed out. Short instructions are also shown how to claim the price beat.

What do you think? Useful? Can it be done better?

    Sounds like a good idea and will save hassle for user to find pricebeat etc. It would be also good idea to add any other price beaters if available.

    Interesting. I think it's useful. I just wonder what is the motivation or incentive for a commercial website to do this. Are you able to monetize it somehow?

    From a UI perspective maybe it shouldn't have a manual checkbox but it can automatically highlight it, maybe by using some kind of icon or another column in your table that says "Get 10% off"

      Commission on domestic flights is already negligible, so monetization is not much of an issue.

      Not sure about having the highlight as automatic - how many people will want to use PriceBeat do you think?

        I agree don't make it automatic. I think it would confuse the majority of people rather than help them. Especially when the Jetstar pricebeat system involves calling Jetstar etc.

    Great idea, would it be hard for it to highlight those within an hour and recognise if the other airlines price is lower?
