VW Dealership Offering 'reward' for Good Survey Feedback

Hi all,

This is my first forum post. I recently took my car in for a service at a VW dealership and they offered me a $100 giftcard to 'thank me' ahead of time to encourage me to give them a positive response to the VW corporate survey gets sent out to each customer after they have their car serviced.

Call me a sticker, but I believe that customer survey stats and overall ratings are meaningless if they can be bought - or influenced. I see this as nothing more than a bribe, and whilst most people would take it and shut up - I just get an uneasy feeling about the whole thing.

Personally asides from the high price (which is expected from a dealership service), I really did not have an issue with the way they performed their job. And Ironically, I would be more inclined the give them a positive review if I didn't feel like they were trying to buy my vote.

Is this common practice from all dealerships? Are they just trying to give out good customer service - or are they trying to game their internal VW corporate surveys/ratings stats to get some sort of edge in comparison to other VW dealerships?

Cheers

Could be good will or encouragement to even fill in feedback. Id imagine that for them to go to that effort they would of also given you satisfactory service as well.

  • It is not unusual for a dealership to seek feedback after a service.
To offer $100 to encourage a favourable feedback is damn odd…
If they are offering you a $100 gift card then your service must have been expensive?
Take the money and just be honest on the feedback.

    You are a sticker.

    You're welcome.

  • At least they offered it beforehand.

  • So.. did you take the giftcard?

    • Who wouldn't?

A lot of these bigger companies have these stupid eBay style feedback systems and you may find if the staff don't get 5/5 they get in trouble or don't get bonuses etc. It's a very broken stupid system.

It's hard to believe that a large trusted company, like VW, would resort to deception like that.

Luckily its only a small survey, imagine if they cheated on something really important !
