Try International Sites When Booking Things (Especially from Expedia)

I was recently overseas (Nepal) and needed to book a hotel. I went through Expedia, and got a quote for a hotel. Being the ozbargainer, I looked for a current discount code here. The discount code 2015HSBC10 did not work.

But, what I realised, is that being in Nepal, I was redirected to Expedia India, which had cheaper rates than Expedia Australia.

An example is still online, looking for the Roayl Penguin Boutique Hotel in Kathmandu on 05/12/2015 to 06/12/2015
Expedia.com.au, then an Executive King Room is $153.86
Expedia.co.in (did this in Incognito Mode), then an Executive King Room is Rs.5,961.43, or $122 Australian dollars using Google Currency Conversion
Expedia.co.uk (did this in Incognito Mode), then an Executive King Room is £60.98, or $125.58 Australian dollars using Google Currency Conversion

So, if anyone's looking for any hotels, and is going to book through Expedia, try the Indian Expedia, or maybe the UK Expedia, but don't just settle on the Australian Expedia.

Who knows what other sites it works for, maybe AirBnB?

Good idea mate. I must not re-book my xmas holiday bookings.

  • Sometimes it is cheaper to book 2 one way tickets on budget airlines than buying a return ticket. For example, when I was trying to book my holiday on AirAsia to Malaysia, if I select return on the AU "version" of the site, the return flight ticket was 400+ per person. But if I book 2 one way tickets, then the return flight originating from Malaysia is about 200+ per person. But this only happens sometimes, AirAsia must be running some promotion locally in Malaysia or something. I did have to pay credit card fees on the return flight though.

yep, agree, I used to do this on trans tasman flights, would book outbound leg on .au site then book return leg on .nz version of airline's website.
That was some time ago, things might have changed.

Found that when booking car rentals as well.
Used www.carrentals.co.uk when booking my car in the US last year.
It included all the insurance extras already bundled.
Did the same thing this year when I went to Brisbane.
