Double Din Headunit?

Looking for a double din headunit around 300-400 max. Not sure if i should get one of the ones from supercheap/JB hifi or if i'll get better bang for buck from the ebay ones with more features etc albeit from a worse brand. Any tips?

Cheers

  • i got a pioneer from Ebay US last year cost 190 delivered
it sells in aus around the $400 mark may be worth checking that out first.

    • Actually a little bit over your price range.. lol.

Pioneer do a good head unit. Worth saving up for a better one that does applink so you can run apps like GPS and other phone apps on it. That's what I'm going to upgrade to. Pioneer make an ok one. The only thing I don't like about pioneer is that all the addons are modules you have to buy like GPS etc.

  • I bought a Sony XAV-68BT for ~$300 new from eBay a few months back. Great unit, comes with inbuilt steering wheel control support whereas many others require aftermarket solutions. Interface is fast, calls are clear through Bluetooth. Only one front USB port though.

  • +1

Don't go lesser brand or no-name brand, you'll just be throwing your money away (lousy Bluetooth, lousy audio, lousy touchscreen etc)
(I mean that anything from JVC/Pioneer/Kenwood and up will be fine, rule out the lesser known brands)
JB Hifi has a sale on at the moment, would be your best bet

  • Deciding between the sony and pioneer at the moment. Any suggestions? My Steering wheel doesn't have the controls so that's not a factor.

    • Sony has front usb, that's something to note

  • how about this one is about $310 shipped to Aus

  • I've seen quite a few support pandora. Wondering if theres any which support spotify?

    Cheers

    • Found one yet? Because JBs have a big Pioneer sale right now

      • Absolutely spewing, i was going to buy a pioneer but decided not to because it was a touch too expensive. Ended up buying a sony on the weekend. Should of just waited as i havn't installed it yet.

  • Also wondering if it's worth it to spend an extra hundredish for DAB?

    Cheers

    • well, do you listen to radio now, and would you if you had a HU with usb/aux?

    • DAB is definitely clearer, with better bass. It does take a bit longer to find the station, and also the DAB signal will only be good in town.

I'd go the upgrade if it was within budget and not stupidly expensive.

(I've heard factory stereos with DAB, and definitely noticed the difference when flicking between analogue and digital)

  • find the model you want. then go shopping for location and prices

btw, some of supercheap's ebay prices on Kenwood during the previous 20% off promo were absurdly good! less than half of amazon!

  • I just got a Newsmy NR3001.. Pretty amazing for under $500 delivered. I'm really stoked with it for my purposes, it does everything!
