LG 7Kg Front Loading Washing Machine WD1200D

We have an LG 7.5kg WD1049C now more than ten years old. At the time everyone said "don't buy LG, they're crap".

I had to to replace the door seal about 3 years ago (bugga of a job, but not expensive).

Other than that, it's been trouble free.

    • I have an LG 9 kg front loader. it's over 10 years old. it does at least 3+ loads a week. hasn't missed a beat.

    • We have an lg that looks like this, we are having issues with balance and have tried fully loaded, rubber insulators, lots of adjusting. Last resort is we have a 22kg concrete block on it now. Should fix the issue. And yes the bolts have ben removed.

      • Last resort is we have a 22kg concrete block on it now.

Brute force solutions are often the best :-)

Our LG has moved house three times. One of those times we forgot to lock the drum. But on it goes, smooth as silk….

We had the older model of this. After 2 years (2 year warranty, purchased pre-2011) the control board fried and cost us ~$250 for a replacement (labour and parts). We couldn't get it repaired by Electrolux because we "weren't in a capital city", we live in Canberra. After another year the motor burnt out and we chucked it for a Bosch.

Never buying Electrolux again! Bad product, bad service.

We got a 6.5kg Bosch 5 years ago, and it hasn't skipped a beat.

      • Us, too. Great experience with Bosch.

    • Never buying Electrolux again! Bad product, bad service.

I had a bad experience with an Electrolux front loader washing machine too (both the machine and Electrolux's service). I'd also vote to avoid them.

we bought the older model Electrolux (EWF1074) back in December 2008 and it's still working OK. However, I did have a vibration problem with it some years back and service was going to be difficult as I was in a country town then. The problem went away when I kicked the back panel.

    • Also got the Electrolux - runs ok but noisy and creates water hammering.

  • Just brought the Fisher and paykal quicksmart same model but got the 8.5kg. Really great. So quiet and clothes come out cleaner and nearly dry.

    • Same here. Love it.

I would go with Bosch, or budget allowing Miele. Long lasting, efficient and effective washers of outstanding quality.
Should last 10+years, the Miele probably closer to 20 years - that's how long our old Miele lasted and the Bosch afterwards for more than 10+

    • I bought a Bosch 2 yrs ago…wouldn't recommend it. They use a lot of cheap plastic…the top of the washer started cracking for no reason after less than a year and they tried to find excuses to replace it. It was a $50 part and a 5min replacement job :\

      • Not the ones made in Germany.

Maybe the ones made in Thailand are like that but the higher priced machines are made in Germany and are solid.

This one is made in Germany :(

          @ssx:

I am sorry but with everything you get an outlier. All the Bosch and Miele equipment my extended family has had is great while the other brands did not perform that well, on several occasions.

I would still go for a Bosch or Miele. They have reputations to protect and if you are not stupid and know the law you can still get free repairs after 4-5 years especially if you paid $1000+ for the item.

        • @Lysander:

That's very true. I had terrible experiences with Bosch and LG, but a great experience with a cheap Samsung washing machine.

I didn't like Bosch's attitude when I explained that the top was cracked, they immediately told me it wasn't covered under warranty.

          @ssx:

I am afraid I have to tell you that that is an Australian thing - at least in my experience, personal and professional.
In Europe the customer service attitude is very different.
Just a little hint: mention the Australian Consumer Law and tell them it was not fit for purpose which is why they have to cover it and repair free, especially if the item was expensive and hence can be expected to last longer than a couple of years.

  • I am on my second LG now - had a 7kg then on a 8,5kg now for 5 years.

For the 2nd one they sent me spare hoses separately just in case the originals split ( there was some sort of recall at that time).

    Now that is customer service.

Do at least 3 loads of washing every week - very easy on the clothes.

I would not even consider anything else for the money.

Bosch Classixx - excellent. My wife and a friend have one each, used them daily for 2 years so far, they love 'em, no problems.

  • We are currently on our second Miele washing machine the first one lasted 13 years before it wouldn't stop spinning. The guy who took it away was intending to refurbish it to resell as second hand. They are well built great machines and the service is quite good if you have an issue. Our first machine had been installed with the wrong control block so it would stop mid cycle. They came out promptly, diagnosed the problem and replaced it with the right one.

I would go Bosch. Had this one 10 years and the previous one 15 years.
Previous one needed a door seal after 10 years. Easy DIY.

  • I currently have the F & P 7.5 but had the LG for 10 odd years. One split hose and then one morning she upped and died. Nobody could figure out why, overuse I suspect. We have 5 kids so it is a pretty big ask on a washer. The LG was great but the F & P "looked nicer" and was cheaper. Fingers crossed that doesn't bite my butt.

We have a Bosch Classix — the first one lasted less almost a year and then was replaced under warranty, the second one we have now had for 7 years and it's still going strong, albeit quite noisy ever since it was new. The seal was replaced twice on the new unit under warranty, then they wanted to charge us $200 to come out and replace it again. Gaffer tape worked for a while to stop the leaks but ultimately, I ended up finding a generic european door seal on ebay for ~$40 delivered and installed it myself, messy but not as hard as it sounds, and there videos on youtube to explain the process.
