    Fiddy, your eggs are expensive!

    • lol, have u seen cheaper?

      • +3

Cheaper than $3.50 for an egg? Do they at least cook them for us?

      • My local grocer does 12 eggs for $2.99 everyday (west coast), but we seem to pay through the nose for bananas.

          Free range?

    • +3

im basing it on the taste !!

      • +1

Basing on my taste, they are way below "quality eggs" - bought them a couple of times in different stores, were never fresh and are nothing extraordinary.

At some point its better to save money then buy the morally correct product.

If you only purchased the most morally correct product things would get very expensive.

      • As long as people are aware that's ok..
btw there are many brands that meet the code that are not a rip off.

        • -1

          I disagree.

Woolworths/Coles free range eggs are much cheaper then other free range eggs.

        • @samfisher5986:

Of course they are cheaper, because they don't meet the code and and jam 10,000 hens in per hectare. hehe.

        • +2

@samfisher5986: They shouldnt call them free range, cos they are not.

        • @calcium:

Well they are not caged eggs, and they are much cheaper.

Do you have any facts that Australia could support all eggs being forced to do 1500 per hectare? Most people say you can't.

I think its funny I was downvoted, I bet those same people don't care about animal rights with many of the other products they purchase.

          @samfisher5986:

No space? Are you talking about chicken or immigration?

Also, how about bringing back slavery? That will make things cheaper!

    • At least the let them go outside.

    FYI https://www.choice.com.au/food-and-drink/meat-fish-and-eggs/…

Under "Free-range egg brands that don't meet the Model Code"
    Coles Free-Range Eggs $0.74 10,000 Nationwide

The 10000 is Stocking density per hectare.

[Ooops… I see the link has already been posted above]

I always buy the ones that explicitly state they are 1500 hens per hectare, but then I can afford to do that.

    • +1

and I'm sure there were only 1500 hens per hectare there on the day the authorities checked. :)

      • Well there are Sunday lunches after all…

      • +1

I do the best I can without putting hens in my own backyard. (Although that option would probably amuse my cat no end).At least I don't, knowingly, go for the caged chicken option; which is just appalling.

        • +1

          I'd call it eggscrutiating

Most of us are locked up in the one place for 8 hours a day, why should the chooks get to roam around and have fun.
Stick them in cages to do their job properly.

    • -4

      amen mate!!

  • These were $2 each on special at my Coles in VIC?

  • -3

just get caged eggs. they are dirt cheap.
    (expecting downvote into oblivion, kgo.)

    • Nearly all products you buy are made from local and imported ingredients.

It is basically impossible to avoid this unless you only buy fruit/veg/meat

    • +1

      fortuntely these eggs are Australian

      • surely that's better than being egged

        • +1

@WillieWonka: I'll stop with the bad puns, and omlette others have a go now!

I have four hens at home at the moment, get around 3-4 eggs a day.
It is probably more expensive with all the feed (layer pellets and mixed grain/seeds) and the start up price for their enclosure.

However, often I get double yolkers and they are bright yellow.
Its a lot of time, fresh water daily, clean up the floor every few weeks.

But I can talk to my girls, they peck at my shoelaces thinking they are worms.

They do however kill my starwberries, and the dog wants to love them to death…

Costco sells a whole ready to eat chicken for $7.

Buy two eggs from coles and feed a child. Buy a chicken from costco and feed 3 or 4 children (or two adults).

  • coles and ww pays the farmers next to nothing for these eggs. it's not uncommon to markup 400% to 800%.
