Problems with TravelSimsDirect ...

Did anyone purchase a pre-paid data SIM card through TravelSimsDirect?

I had to open a new account here as I only usually browse this site.

Back on the 20th Oct I saw a special here by TravelSimsDirect for 10GB of Data in the USA for $59. It seemed like good value so I decided to purchase it.

Fast forward 3.5 weeks and I hadn't received it yet so I sent them an email asking what happened. I did not get a reply at all. I gave it a week and wrote a forceful email saying that I will post my experience on here and request a charge back on the credit card if they continue to ignore me. I get a quick email reply saying it must've been lost in the mail. Since my mailbox is locked and it's only an envelope, I seriously doubt this is what happened (maybe they ran out of SIMS?). Anyway, they said they'll mail another one out. I wait a full week and a half and no mail again, so I wrote another email. Again it was ignored. I wrote a second email a day later and I get a reply that the SIM they sent is out of stock and they will offer a refund (or I can buy a 5GB one for $60). That was today.

So they've put me in a pretty crappy position now that my impending trip is only 1.5 weeks out. I will probably have to get a local SIM in USA when I land which is not what I wanted as I don't have the time for that.

There's definitely something fishy going on here with this business practice and I have zero trust in these guys. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Cheers for reading!

You can buy prepaid sims in the airport (Melbourne definitely) so no need to stress. Otherwise, it's fairly easy to pop into a T-Mobile or mobile shop however it's pretty inconvenient.

  • Yeh, traveling with two kids, I really wanted to sort out all this before I boarded the plane. We only have two weeks in USA so any detour to stop at a phone store to buy a SIM is going to be annoying as well as a waste of time, not to mention the lack of data prior to purchasing one (I run a business so I will need that data straight away).

I may have to go the Melbourne alternative, but this post is really just a rant to let everyone know what transpired. In the end, what seemed like good value was just a mess around and I ended up back in the same position.

I've bought sims from them before and had no problems. A friend of mine left the instructions for his Japanese SIM at home. I emailed TSD on the train from Osaka airport and got a reply with the correct settings within about ten minutes.

    Nothing in your junk mail?

  • Hi methdd,

Sorry about your frustrations though your account of events isn't quite as you describe here. Your order was indeed lost in transit from Australia Post (this happens, please refer to examples like: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/its-not-in-the-post/story-e…). Though when we explained this to you, it was perceived as the mail was lost in your letter box and you were adamant your mailbox was secure (this isn't what lost mail means).

Anyway we also explained to you that we would usually express post a replacement sim, though in this case as you ordered a discontinued product we offered you a full refund or a replacement sim to our current best seller, the 5GB T-Mobile card. We understand this is less data but it is the best available card at the moment and we offered this as a gesture and have refunded you in full also.

We are sorry, we have made attempts to make things better. We hope your frustration subdues and reason and consideration will set in. We are more than open to help you and provide discounted rates to ensure your trip is enjoyable and stress free. We will be waiting to help :)

    Regards,
    TSD

  • I have also bought with TSD and have nothing but good to say. Seems from their reply you left out a few details?

Hello TravelSimsDirect rep, I ordered a T-Mobile 3GB of 4G Data + Call & SMS Package on 6/1/2016. All I got was the emailed receipt from Paypal. No email confirmation from TravelSimsDirect and no shipping advise. Is this normal?
