Using GPS While Driving

As most of us most certainly know, Using a Mobile phone while driving in your hand is prohibited, that includes Gps apps and etc. But how about using a Tomtom navigational device?by law it states that, A touch-screen GPS unit is classed as a "driver's aid"
While your car is active holding and playing with one of those is that illegal would you think?

That's why it should be mounted on your windshield or dash, not used in your hand. If you are spotted by a cop while holding a GPS unit while on the road, you'll get busted.

  • What scrimshaw said. I'm using this phone holder in my car for 1.5 years and never had any problem from cops while navigating GPS - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231196697075

    • Did you ever went anywhere where there is no mobile coverage? Your gps is not going to work there..

  • Mount it on the dash you don't need to touch it.

  • Most phones have a dedicated GPS receiver. So even with no phone reception, the GPS components will still work.
You will need offline maps installed though, which is why apps like TomTom are so large.
Bonus of using your phone is the assisted GPS functions. Like when tall buildings block the GPS signals, your phone will then use the mobile cell towers to triangulate your position.
