  • Although $50 more than the offer from JB, this comes with the accessories to attach the cam to a backpack shoulder strap (or similar).

    Tempting…

    • A quick call to the Sony store to price match JB with the adventure bundle could do the trick ;)

The $349 price at jb has expired so they won't price match it for me.

    • you talking about the clips and mounts on this pic?

  • +1

Not bad deal but i will pass it. Record could be done by phone

  • GoPro or this?

    • this one's got better vid quality

      • Sony's pretty much better at everything, Image Stabilisation at Full HD is the big one, longer battery life, GPS tagging, there are other little things that I'm forgetting. Personally, I also find Sony's form factor a lot practical and better suited for handheld recording or helmet mounting.

        • and stereo mics!

        • @CVonC: And loop recording!

        • @elektron:

My GoPro 3+ Black has that though >_<

    • This has image stabilisation but the barrel distortion is a lot more than the 4 black. Image quality is probably about the same if not better. Guess it all goes down to price and form factor.

      • It's not barrel distortion, it's the fisheye effect (ultra wide-angle), which can be turned off except in 4k. It's also very easily corrected with basic video editing software.

I bought this when JB had the deal on. Way better colours than the GoPro range, but I found that it's not that great indoors if you're going to taking a lot of panning shots. The barrel distortion at the edges gets pretty dizzying sometimes. I'm using Adobe Premiere to get rid of the fisheye effect and getting OK results (cuts off the edges of the video though).

In the end, I think it becomes a question of how much you mind trade-off between great vivid colours vs. spending time in post to get rid of the fisheye effect.

      • My understanding is that the fisheye mode can be turned off (except in 4k). Have you tried this?

        • +1

There isn't an explicit option to turn off fisheye mode. But one of the by-products of SteadyShot mode is that it takes out most of the warping, but also reduces the FOV from 180 to 120.

I personally think the fisheye effect is a decent trade-off for the fantastic colours and detail. Depends how much it bothers you

        • @riders29:

Apparently, you can change it the FOV to 120 regardless of the IS:

Yep you're right - just checked. Sorry!

There's a YouTube comment that I thought was pretty funny but kind of true nonetheless, even though the comparison video itself was very objective and fact-based:

I think like most reviews of gopro v sony, the presenter here is basically trying to say this….. if your clueless, impressionable, can only operate devices designed for the technically impaired, and have to be like everyone else, to feel comfortable and secure. Buy the gopro like all the other sheep. If your well informed, dont feel the need to run with the rest of the herd, and are capable of spotting the best quality camera despite someone trying to convince you, your eyes are deceiving you. get the sony!

  • Can anyone tell me what is included in the adventure pack?

Edit: my question was answered above. Thank gavt

  • I saw this for $299 at David Jones Bondi Junction last week.. There was only 1. Not sure if its still there

    • not there, I was there yesterday hunting the bose soundsystems

      • That would have been the Dick Smith clearance line then.

Since I missed the JB Hifi deal, I'll bite this!
