Soundbar Vs Old School Amp+Speakers Combo

Hi, I had average 5.1 speakers set that I want to hook to a new TV, mainly for watching movies and streaming musics from phone.

I'm looking for a cheap Bluetooth amp ($200-$300), but considering budget soundbar can be bought for that money, should I save some hassle and go for soundbar, or is there any advantage for using 5.1 speakers (with cheap amp).

Sounbar I'm looking:
Denon DHT-T100
Klipsch HD Theatre SB 120

I haven't found any Bluetooth amp in that price range which can do 5.1 speakers.
Any suggestion?

  • Sorry, not an answer, but a question for cleverer minds: is Bluetooth even capable of 5.1?

Edit: This one claims to do it, so maybe there is such a thing after all; now to find a local seller… - http://www.amazon.com/Frisby-FS-5010BT-Surround-Speakers-Blu…

  • I got a bluetooth to optical adapter, kept my 7.1 system and just plugged the adapter into another input. When I needed a higher version of bluetooth I bought a new adapter for $55.

So if you can get a cheap receiver (I use a JVC rx-D701s I got for $25 and accusound speakers 7.1 for $80)look at something like this :-

  • What I'm looking for is actually a mini amp that:
. Accepts optical from TV (for watching netflix/movies)
. Accepts bluetooth music streaming (for streaming music from phone without turning on TV)
    . Output to 5.1 speakers

I'm trying to avoid buying a full size amp, just something small that I can conceal behind the TV is enough. But looks like I don't have many options.
