Uber Fraudulent Charge to My Credit Card

I am needing some help. I have just received a $ 180 uber charge to my CC. My immediate thought was WTF the kids have used my account. But they all have their own CC's now and separate uber accounts. So I log into my uber account and there are no transactions. This means someone has created a new Uber account with my CC details. So I try to contact Uber by phone. But they dont seem to have a phone number. Could this be correct? My bank says I need to cancel my credit cards and that to further investigate , they need to know the start and finish details of the uber ride. They also say that they can dispute the transaction but that will take 45 days!
This is the other side to Uber. Its not very savory. I expect to be able to have instant access to a fraud department in these circumstances. it seems that Uber just leave you hanging. Anyone have any insight as to how to proceed?

    • except Ubers response is not timely. In the mean time my bank is flagging my CC account for possible fraud (this should stop unusual activity)

  • I suppose paying in cash negates this issue…..

No Offence, but did your wife do a secret trip(s) but so afraid to tell? (I'm trying to give some more things into account)

    • LOL . My wife was running a conference for 25 people right up until the time that she caught the cab to the airport. Then she caught the plane out of australia.

This is and will always be the problem with credit cards. If someone somehow gets your credit card information especially through other transactions it is as good as having a duplicated card. In saying that it's not for you to investigate after you are certain that it was fraudulent. Simply report it to your bank and your bank will follow their protocols. You will be issued with a new card and the rest is just waiting time. It doesn't matter who pays for the fraudulent charge be it the bank or the merchant as long as it's not you. The bank can request all the information from the merchant to their satisfaction or else.

Uber have an email address though. I've been involved in a similar situation where a Driver ripped me off by taking an extremely long route - I emailed Uber and they had the money refunded into my account within 24 hours. Without being rude, you've hardly tried to contact Uber at all and it looks like you're just looking for a reason to be agry at them/get them in trouble.

He doesn't have time to email Uber, he's too busy on OzBargain complaining:)

  • I didn't bother to read the comments so if someone has already bought it up sorry but anyhow …

Large amounts of purloined Uber accounts are traded by criminals in order to get low cost travel with almost practically no risk. If you cannot find another explanation I would treat your phone as infected and any devices you connect to as well such as a desktop computer as this is a common way of obtaining various types of accounts.

  • Sure it's not a cleaning charge?
I've heard many of stories where passengers damage or leave a mess in the car.
Drive photographs, cleans sends bill to uber and uber charges you.

Which is fair to me. If i was a driver and you scuffed my leather or threw up in my car, I'm sure as hell going to find the most expensive cleaner to clean it or fix it.
You're ending up paying the bill anyway.

  • I have to ask he question, are you a cabbie?

  • i got that credit card issue with uber as well. stopped using uber since, no matter how much any person may brag about it.
