$1, $5 and $10 JB Hi-Fi Game Clearance Update

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Most of the games were never meant to be that cheap. I was just in a store and was told by the staff, that all the stock has been pulled from the shelves and is being re-priced etc. I'm sure all stores know by now, and have done the same thing.

I'm assuming they were supposed to be $5, $10, $15 and $20, as that is what they generally mark them down to.

  • thanks for the update .Oh well , time for the refund

    • The sale was also only meant to be in-store. Somewhere, someone messed up big time.

Wow that was a major mess up on their part. Wonder why they didn't shut it down sooner. I thought it was pretty weird they went straight from 30 and above to $1 but they've done it before on smaller scales so I didn't think it was impossible. Actually I'm not so sure it was a mistake as some games got ticketed to a $1 and I don't think the staff do that unless they were told. Not to mention they had all the time in the world to cancel online orders and refresh the price in the system. Perhaps they massively misunderstood the actual value of the stock they marked down and changed their minds.

Yeah. Some of the $1 games I would of happily paid $10 for even if they were second hand. I don't actually think it was a pricing error though. The $1 games were on purpose in store bargains.

      • Yeah a good amount of the games I would have paid a lot more for too. In fact I was trying to buy Ar nosurge at EB through home direct (in store) the previous week and tried twice but apparently they pulled home direct offline because they were working on the EB mad monday sale instead so just as well since then I didn't have to pay $36 for it.

no stores sell the $1 stuff anymore unfortunately
It's funny a mate and I went to a few Jb's today and they had slapped pre owned stickers on almost all their ps3 and x360 titles, alot of which were the $1 ones from yesterday and the day before. At least we managed to clean up a few shops yesterday :P

I have a feeling theey're either going to do a preowned clearance at similar prices or just ship the old stock off to some warehouse and let it rot.

    • One guy on the other post said that theyre trying to fulfil the online orders that werent canceled yet with stock from stores
I also wouldnt be suprised if the $1 dollar sale ended up being a preowned clearance as for that stock wont sell now especially now since so many people got brand new ones for $1

      • they've been cancelling heaps of online orders because of the online listing 'stuff up'even though plenty of the titles I had ordered were in stock in the different shops I visited the next day. Can't complain as I did receive 2 10% off vouchers :P
The chick that was working in games said all jb's had to remove all titles which were showing up for $1 because of a massive stuff up and jb made a loss (not that I give a shit :P )
I've got a feeling as we get closer to xmas they'll have more of these clearance type things. Ill be keeping an eye out on the preowned games in the next few weeks ;)

        • im hoping so too, it doesnt bother me if they are preowned if they give them to for $1 ahahah

        • @JezzaC96: haha true that! Can only hope wait and see :D

  • Well I had some refunded yesterday, but I have had 6 of the $1 games delivered today in Blacktown, 1 ps3 once from castle hill, 5 xbox 360 ones from port macquarie

    • Lucky you. My order came to $136 and I received a full refund. I did make it into 6 stores though, and managed to grab nearly everything I wanted.

      • -1

I made 3 orders, 1 for 2x tokyo twilight ghost hunters since that sells for $60 on ebay and was only $5, this order came through.

I made a 2nd order for a ton of $1 titles which was unsurprisingly cancelled.

Made a 3rd order for just castlevania + castlevania 2 and it hasn't been delivered or cancelled yet.

        • the castlevanias were one of the first things I ordered and were cancelled

  • +1

My 4 $1 dollar games arrived in the mail today. I wouldnt have cared if my order got cancelled as i thought it was too good to be true but worth a try. 3 of the games are still shrink wrapped with 2 marked at 59 so quite a bit of a drop in price. Definitely would have payed $15 for two of them and 5-10 for the other two. It would be good to hear the full story on it, if it was an error or jb underestimate the value of last gen games

  • We were lucky we got Nba2k14 & Fifa14 for $1 at Plenty Valley ordered online. We were told when we picked up that it was the only order that went through:)

  • -2

My order had better arrive via post. Mistakes happen, sure, but you've got to wear it.

    • They are cancelling a massive amount of online orders.

    • Mistakes happen, sure, but you've got to wear it.

The cancelled order emails provide you with a 10% off code to use on any game :)

      • Mine didn't

        • @Agret: Yeah i got same email though only the top half. Not worried as I'm sick of them half assing my orders anyway.

      • Ah that's something at least

  • +2

My 3 $1 games came in the mail today.I'm happy although I never thought I would receive them.

  • I've received 1 out of 3 ps3 games so far, and the other 2 are marked as shipped so I'm expecting them tomorrow.

God of War 3 looks to be factory sealed, not the shrink wrap that JB do (or used to do)

    • +2

They still re-seal the last copy etc. The plastic is either too tight or the sticky tape is, which is why the plastic goes all wavy.

      • +3

As a cheapo Game collector this annoys me to no end. (the wavy case plastic damage).

  • +1

I hear that. I end up having to swap so many cases from JB titles just because of that squashed plastic wave effect

    • +2

Oh yay I'm not the only one!
Haha I've bought so many awful games used for this purpose alone.

      • +1

        Are you my collecting soulmate?

        • +1

I must be! Do you feel bad when your 3ds games are missing the Club nintendo paper work or when EB games puts their stickers on the case art, Manual or Key code voucher?

On a related note those new stickers at EB sure are much easier to pull off with out damaging anything.

        • @Scaregdearimasu:

Yes I do! Even if the code is expired or used, it feels incomplete without it. I'm missing the AR cards in my copy of Dream Drop Distance and it frustrates me to no end. I'm contemplating rebuying the game just for those little cardboard cards that I'll probably never use.

It always bothers me when they put pre-owned stickers on the corner of a manual, and then when you remove it there's that colour difference from the sticker adhesive.

I'll even go as far as swapping out a slightly (and I mean slightly) inferior case for a brand new one whenever I have an opportunity to do so, ie. just before trading a game in, etc.

Totally agree about the new stickers. Thank the heavens they changed to the new stickers now.

Back on to JB Hi-Fi, when I was in the store buying my $1 games, I eyed a brand new sealed copy of the same title I was buying behind the counter. I asked the sales staff if I could get that one instead. He gave me a weird look like what's the difference? There's a HUGE difference in my eyes.

Ah, the OCD problems of my video game collecting life. #FirstWorldGamingProblems

  • I must have just got in before the price hike as I grabbed a Darksiders 2 Limited Edition this afternoon for $1 still. The JB worker did look a bit flustered so maybe she was annoyed since games were already restickered to $1 and I guess she was changing them back.

  • This afternoon, the Northland store (external on Murray Road) in Preston (Vic) still had a number of $1 games not marked. The assistant was kind enough to show me a list and price check them to make sure - very helpful.

    • oh they where still scanning at $1 there? what time was that around as op says they were pulling stock to re-price. Maybe if it's still on the shelf it's still a $1 since they haven't updated the system yet.

      • +3

It was at 2pm. The assistant had a multiple page list showing games at $1, $5, $10 etc. I managed to pick up several $1 games and one $10 game.

  • Just got a few pick up orders cancelled.. It has this on their site:
    "
    Q. What if the store is actually out of stock out of my item after I place my order?
    A. If the store cannot confirm stock availability at your preferred Pick Up location, they will call you and offer the following solutions:
    (a) Arrange item transfer from another store
    (b) Arrange for the order to be picked up from another store
    (c) Arrange free delivery from another store
    (d) Offer you a different item that will satisfy your requirements"
Anyone gotten any of these ooptions?

    • +3

Hardly, I got the "we cancel your order and refund you without consulting you about anything".

  • Just went in to (tweed city) JB and of the little stock I could find it still did scan at $1 so I don't think all stores are pulling stock off shelves, maybe just the ones doing there own thing or ones with better/lots of stock.

  • I had the 4 games I selected for pickup cancelled and the ones I selected for delivery shipped. Bizzare. Wish I had selected all for delivery.

    @BargainJunkie @TytRs
I was refused a sale on a title that scanned at $1 in Parramatta Westfield yesterday.
The sales assistant said I could have it for $29 though!

  • I ordered Disney Fantasia Music for Xbox (the only title I wanted, I'm not into shooter games) for $1, but not really expecting it to be honored.

It arrived yesterday, in original plastic wrap.

Maybe it was not a popular title, but it still was honored, so a genuine sale there.

  • Ordered 10 games, all 10 arrived, love you jb

  • so are the prices back to normal?

    • Some got fixed back to normal others haven't. I found a copy of project spark on the shelf for a $1 today. (also bought it).
Other ones like Bayonetta for Ps3 were still scanning above $1.
Xcom Bureau on the 360 was ticketed at a $1 too.

      • project spark is free on xbox live gold.

        • Yes I know. I bought it for the factory sealed case and the 12 days of gold for when if? they ever decide to put a sale on that marks down a game price but only if you have gold or multiplayer.

        • @Scaregdearimasu:
i see i see, good idea.

        • @Scaregdearimasu:
where can I still find a sealed copy of project spark?
$1 Fifa 14 case needs replacement, the shelve wear and sticker residue is gross.

        • @astroberryz: I just got lucky with that. You can try asking your local JB hifi store to check their systems to see if they can find any shops near by that have any stock left. Then you can call those shops up and ask if any of their copies are still sealed.
Alternatively you could ask the games staff if they wouldn't mind if you swapped cases since it's something important to you. (explain your a collector or something).

      • +1

You did well, Scaregdearmasu. I've twice been refused the sale of a title scanning at $1 at the checkout, in different stores. And at 8.30am Boxing Day when I was enquiring where certain titles are in stock I was informed that a memo had been reissued to keep the "pricing error" games off the shelves.

I managed to buy a lot of $5 games - one of which will be free on Xbox Live Gold in mid-Jan - and I passed several $1 games that I didn't know, only later regretting one.
Alas, if I'd known the full scope of the $1 titles included the likes of Borderlands 2, Dishonored, MoH, I might have seen some on the first day the sale broke.

  • My coupon codes are invalid :(

  • Games are still going for $1. Just picked up a couple copies of Borderlands 2 for a mate and I.

    • Which branch was that at, Waltstreet?

      • Cairns mate. Stock was stickered and were two copies left.

        • Cheers. It would have been a bit far for me anyway.

    • yeah nah.
