Looking for a Cheap (Sub $200) Display for PS4

Hey, everyone!

As the title suggests, will be happy with the bare minimums (1080p res, good enough refresh rate for gaming). TVs and Monitors are both fine.

Is there something I should be on the lookout for in particular? Suggestions would really help out! Thanks in advance!

  • This is a pretty good buy for hooking up a PS4.
ASUS VE248H 24in Widescreen LED Monitor
It has built in speakers too if you are in a pinch but I would definitely recommend hooking up external speakers for daily use.

Just make sure you go into the menu and turn off overdrive (their smoothing tech) or the picture might blur/have delayed input

I've spent some time checking different retailers and that screen seems the best buy for your budget. There's no sub $200 TVs that are even as big as that screen. There is a BENQ screen on pccg for the same price but it is much worse, the ASUS is the best bet.

To be on the lookout for are really screen size, resolution (you want 1080p), research if it has ghosting/blurring and if it does can you turn off the processing on the display or activate "game mode", the panel technology for monitors. If it is a cheap monitor and mentions IPS it will be no good for gaming.

    • Thanks for the detailed response!

That monitor looks good. Built-in speakers are definitely an added bonus (but might connect some cheap external speakers). The BENQ screen (rl2455hm) was what came up while I was looking up monitors. Why is it worse than the ASUS?

      • Sorry my mistake, I was looking up the wrong model on Google. The BenQ GL2460HM is a good choice too it seems.

The one you mentioned (RL2455HM) seems to be around $250 but if you can get it for under $200 that's a great buy, it's cool that it has 2 HDMI ports too and it also includes built in speakers (once again, they'd be crap but it's better than nothing in a pinch). The screen also has a headphone port so presumably you could get your PS4 audio over the HDMI cable then plug in headphones into the monitor.

Check out this review for it.

  • Monitors are a good choice, but I'm sure if you trudge through Dick Smith they will have remnants of clearance cheap tvs.

    • I found some Dick Smith TVs in a few shops, but the picture didn't look too good. :-/ Clarity is higher on my preference than size.

      • If clarity and latency are priorities, get a cheap CRT off gumtree. The best CRTs (Sony KVHR36M31) can be found for $150 or less.

  • With that budget definitely go for a monitor. The only TVs (besides the ones you might be able to grab from a clearance at DSE, and even then) will be budget or small sizes comparable to a monitor anyway and will have compromised features. No 1:1 pixel mapping, slow OSDs, etc…

Are you planning to sit at a desk and play or?
