Recommend Me a $200 Tablet

Hello all,

I am after a cheap 10' tablet to watch Youtube, browse social media and type up the occasional word document. Would prefer Android, hopefully lollipop.

Hopefully I can get something with a really good screen and reliability is the most important thing. Battery life i'm not too bothered on.

Open to getting something Chinese and generic.

Are Ainol tablets still good ?

  • Do you want to buy Samsung or Sony Tablet? I have a Samsung tablet. It is really giving me good service. Where are you from? OK no problem you can check in google for buy or you can try http://www.shopprice.com.au/10+tablet . I got good service from here.

    • Not really bothered by brand. Just best quality for the price

    • Abraxane
    • I was going to say Viagra

      • A lot cheaper, and more fun!

        • Yes, bit of a hard slog.

  • What about a Chuwi Hi8

  • I second donkeydoc, if you don't mind the resolution being slightly (or a lot) low (compared to Android tablets, which might be a big minus for you), I think Windows tablets would be better for word document editing. I did try to use my Android tablet like a light laptop before (when my laptop/tablet was sent away), it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be (MS Word app had issues, to put it lightly, so much that I resorted to using my gf's laptop or a computer instead).

Other than Acer Aspire Switch 10e, I think you could go for Chinese ones (Teclast and Chuwi do pop into my mind). Though I am not sure how well they would fair on reliability department.

    • the mi pad 2 comes in a windows 10 version apparently, can't find it available to AU though

      • I was keen in a miPad 2 but after seeing that it's only 7.9 inches I've lost all interest.

Windows 10 should ideally be used on 10 inch devices now that they've reworked the UI for better desktop use.

There are now a lot of Surface Pro wannabe's in the market now and Chinese companies are creating all sorts of low-cost 2-in-1 devices (but without the stylus support).

I'm now more interested in the Chuwi Hi10. It goes for less than $270 AUD here and is equipped with 4GB of RAM, making it better for doing some actual multitasking.

        • I personally think MiPad 2 offers less than other Chinese tablets (i.e. many Cherry trail tablets offer 4GB RAM).
If you want a Windows tablet, other Chinese tablets do it better, if you want an Android tablet, I think MiPad 1 is better.

Though whether I can recommend a Chinese tablet is another story (I personally think there are too much risk of DOAs and failures within first few months).
In other words, you get what you pay for I think applies.

        • @Oversimplified:

yeah not to mention lack of a SD card slot. The Mipad 2 is the only windows 10 tablet out there to not have expandable memory (except for USB mass storage).

        • @scrimshaw: MiPad 2 sorta disappointed me. Using Intel chip, I was at least expecting 4GB RAM, Cherry Trail Windows tablet as a baseline with possible 8GB RAM model as a higher end model.

I was hoping for a Tegra X1 tablet to be honest (though Tegra X1 probably is too much for a 8 inch tablet). High end Android tablet market needs more decent tablets at cheaper price imo. There are not many tablets with SoC better than Snapdragon 800/801.
