Slow NBN 25MBS plan only getting 450 KBS download speeds?

I have just joined the NBN one week ago on a 25 MBS plan and have been checking speeds. Testing reveals about 20% losses approx., but the real test is in practice. So far no speeds higher on downloads than 480 KBS however there were no Microsoft downloads included. Is that all we can expect? I was getting 350 KBS on ADSL+ prior to this. Should I, or is it too soon to complain to my ISP?

Have you talked with your NBN provider? Have you followed the usual troubleshooting steps?

Connect your computer directly to your router (using LAN cable) and perform a speed test.

You should be getting close to at least 70% of your advertised speed. If not then you've got either a dodgy NBN NTD or maybe your router isn't really up to the task and needs replacing.

Your fellow neigbours are probably also streaming porn sucking up all that bandwidth when you need it most

  • Congestion or maybe some sort of fault contact your provider as you are paying for a certain speed this is NOT adsl where you have to put up with whatever you get due to distance from exchange.

Im NBN 12/1 TPG Unlimited and i get always above 11mbps download.

  • am with telstra and they charge me $20 more "Speed Boost " for 23 mbps ( intially free for 4 months ).otherwise will be down to 10 mbps.

Sounds like Malcom Turnbull's NBN is working out as planned then.

Let us judge politician's by their action's and not their words. This is the internet that Malcom Turnbull's actions have bought you. Many of his actions only served to enrich Telstra shareholders.

  • Hi, when I initially signed up for a 25 down on the NBN it was still buffering when streaming video so I upgraded to 100 down with my ISP. However the speed didn't change until after I called NBN co direct and miraculously 5 mins later my speed was up to 90+ down. If your not getting any help from your ISP try calling NBN direct and worst case scenario they can send a technician outnto have a look. Just be careful they are not going to bill you for it.

  • I know this may sound stupid but is ur red cable connected

  • Why bother with a 25 plan when you are on NBN. Max that sucker out.

  • The first question should be whether you are connected via the real NBN ie FTTP (fibre to the premises).

Or MTM (Malcolm Turnbulls' Mess) ie FTN (Fibre to the Node, via your telephone line), FTTB (fibre to the basement if you are in a multi dwelling) or Fixed Wireless?

  • Fibre runs to the distribution box inside my office, from source all they way back to main exchange. Cat5e cable to Wireless Router (TP-Link Archer D7), Cat5e cable to Computer 2 meters away.
    Downloads are all stop,start, stop,start…
NBN was contacted…was told to call ISP as it is not their issue and if it was, the ISP was to contact…
"Thank you for your enquiry to nbn. The reference number for your enquiry is xxxxxxxxxxxx.

As your enquiry is related to a fault with your Service, please contact your Retail Service Provider (RSP) who will be able to assist you even if there is a fault on nbn side, the retail service provider would have to lodge an incident to have this looked into."

I have since made some changes to DNS and the stop/start issue is improved but the speeds are still unchanged at around 400-450KBS yet the tests still show the incoming line speed to be 20.7MBS.
