Woolworths WISH (Physical) Gift Cards Discontinued?

My local Woolworths stopped stocking WISH gift cards as of 2 weeks ago. Are these cards still available? Hoping that it's not a nationwide occurrence. Can anyone confirm availability at other stores? (Sorry haven't had time to check other stores).

  • Plenty at my locals, and I noticed they introduced a new Woolworths money app which keeps track of all gift card balances, credit card balances etc… so I don't think they'd get be getting rid of those permanently. Have you considered buying them electronically at 5% off face value from cashrewards etc?

    • Yes, I'm well aware of the 5% CR discount. I learnt from another savvy ozb member to transfer the eGift value to a physical card which then allows Caltex fuel purchases (at participating Caltex Safeway servos). I did notice there were Caltex cards… So may have to opt for those instead.

Thanks for the money app heads up. Hopefully will be more convenient than constantly labelling my EDR card with the eGift credentials for in store purchases :S

  • If you buy them online, you can get a 5% discount (from various sources). But normally for the physical card, you have to pay for registered mail postage, so the 5% discount becomes pretty much moot. Or you can get an e-gift card, which are amazingly convenient but give you said physical gift cards, I assume you already know about e-gift cards but don't want them.

Can confirm my local woolies as of yesterday still had wish gift cards.

So it's still possible they're being phased out (and some stores just still have stock), but I think it's unlikely. More likely your local woolies just lacks stock at the moment. Have you tried asking one of the staff?

    • If you are a car club like RACV or RACQ or NRMA in sydney most have discounts on the physical cards you can buy from their stores

      • +1

Assuming the merchant in this case is the insurance/car club in question then you don't maximise the credit card reward points i.e. Amex's issued Amex's only get 0.5 pt per $1 for insurance merchant accounts. The e-gift cards through the likes of Cashrewards etc are full 3 pts per $1. It comes down to points vs delivery cost whichever is worth more to the person.

    • Yes, I did ask the staff. They had as much idea as I did. They also found it strange that they all just disappeared.
